Position Overview The After School Program Director is an ideal position for a mission-driven leader to pilot a high-impact, after-school program at one of our Bronx school campuses. This role is a critical component of KIPP NYC’s expanded learning vision and offers the opportunity to influence the future of after-school programming across our network.
The Program Director will drive the design and execution of a robust after-school experience aligned with KIPP NYC’s Graduate Aims, Positive Youth Development principles, and culturally responsive practices. Reporting directly to the Regional Manager of After School Programs, the Program Director will manage all aspects of program delivery, team management, cross-functional collaboration, and site-level decision-making.
This position is based in New York, NY, and requires daily travel to various KIPP NYC school sites in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Harlem, and Washington Heights.
Responsibilities and Duties Lead the vision, planning, and execution of a single-site after-school program focused on high-quality, age-appropriate student experiences, including academic support, project-based enrichment, and beyond-the-classroom opportunities such as student showcases, special events, and field trips. Oversee all program operations, including fiscal management, logistics, student supervision, and scheduling, in partnership with the school principal and staff to ensure seamless transitions between school and after-school activities. Assess program effectiveness, refine strategies, and drive continuous improvement using data such as attendance, engagement, student growth, and staff performance. Ensure compliance with safety, health, and operational protocols required by KIPP NYC and external bodies like the Department of Health, including documentation for attendance, incident reports, evaluations, and assessments. Manage a diverse team of educators, enrichment instructors, and volunteers by fostering a professional culture grounded in equity, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement through meetings, coaching, training, and evaluations. Participate actively in school leadership meetings and regional professional development opportunities.
