What will I do as the Home Care Director?

The Director of Saint Elizabeth Home Care oversees operations of the agency including its skilled home care division as well as its private duty division. This key leadership role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, client-centered care, maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations, and driving operational efficiency. The Director of Home Care has a strong background in healthcare management, exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills, and a passion for supporting individuals in maintaining their independence at home.

The Director of Home Care manages staff, provides budget oversight, facilitates program development, and collaborates with clients, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure the highest standards of patient care are being met to achieve the best possible health outcomes while driving financial success for the Home Care division.

Responsibilities of the Home Care Director include:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the agency, including short-term and long-range goals in addition to new programs and services, by maintaining referral opportunities and monitoring industry and community trends.
  • Ensures the agency adheres to all relevant federal, state, and local regulations and licensing requirements.
  • Assures the agency meets high standards of quality care and service while operating in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Creates and manages the agency's budget, monitors expenses, and ensures financial stability.
  • Monitors the quality and appropriateness of all services provided to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and customer satisfaction, while ensuring adequate staffing and training in coordination with department leaders. Implements improvement initiatives.
  • Maintains positive and professional relationships with clients, their families, referral sources, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensures customer service concerns and complaints are addressed in a timely manner and reported appropriately based on the nature of the complaint.
  • Coordinates with department heads and human resources to ensure adequate staffing levels of qualified individuals.
  • Participates in recurring surveys (RI DOH, JCAHO) including pre-survey preparation, during-survey response and meeting participation, and post-survey response. Ensures agency is always "survey ready."
  • Facilitates contract negotiations with third party payers for appropriate rates.
  • Oversees case mix by payer source and ensures appropriateness for agency.

Qualifications for a Home Care Director:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, master's degree preferred. A combination of relevant experience and education may be considered.
  • A minimum of 5 years' relevant experience with proven successful administrative experience, preferably in a visiting nurse's home care agency.
  • Experience with OASIS and thorough understanding of its impact on the agency.
  • Thorough understanding of certified home care related practices and healthcare regulations including, but not limited to, Rhode Island Department of Health and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
