Primary Responsibilities Market leadership and business development (approximately 70%) Staff development (20%) Support to Operations (10%) The Market Sector Director sets the vision for HDR’s strategy in the H&R market sector and works with regional leadership to implement growth initiatives, develop staff, and achieve annual market sector booking, revenue and profit goals. Responsibilities include coordinating with the Transportation Business Group (TBG) Market Strategy Director and regional leadership, implementing strategic growth plans, and representing HDR in client and industry relationships. Key activities include engaging with area clients across HDR services (advisory, environmental, strategic communications, facilities, etc.) and developing key initiatives for growth, best practices, and HDR brand expansion. The role supports area business development and client management while leading initiatives for growth and quality professional services. Business Development & Client Management Lead strategic vision and direction for the market sector, aligning technical services with business group and operations leadership Serve as Client Manager for selected key clients within the market sector Engage in selected projects as Principal-In-Charge Promote HDR services to clients in the market sector in collaboration with client managers Participate in Transportation Business Group Management Team and collaborate with Regional Business Group Directors Drive client development and pursuit processes using proven capture techniques Support area and strategic pursuits through client relationship development Represent HDR in industry associations and with senior client leadership Identify strategic investments (acquisitions and technology) to maintain HDR leadership Develop and maintain relationships with industry counterparts and key client organizations Lead HDR’s presence with industry organizations in US, Canada, EMEA and APAC Staff Development Lead organization to support client delivery and staff growth; assist with recruitment of Market Sector employees Coordinate staffing plans and approve key hires Participate in Annual Performance Conversations for key market sector leaders Support to Operations Assist in delivery of professional services for area projects, monitor market sector profit and loss, and support project staffing and QA/QC Monitor performance indicators (NFE/NFB, profit, unbilled revenue, AR, losses, investments) and promote effective use of resources Assist with contract review to manage risk, staffing, and claims resolution Promote QA/QC and share lessons learned QualificationsPreferred Qualifications Minimum 20 years experience in planning/engineering in highway or bridge design Professional engineering license or equivalent Past leadership roles within highway/road industry associations (e.g., AASHTO, IBTTA, etc.) Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely related field Minimum 12 years industry experience including leadership Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong client management and business development experience with a track record of growing/leading a practice Strong budgeting, staff, and operational skills Strategic marketplace analysis and positioning for HDR Active participation in HDR’s employee-owned culture What We Believe & Our Commitment HDR is our company.
