General Summary
The Core Family Medicine Hospitalist Faculty is a key educator and clinician in the Family Medicine Residency Program, with primary responsibility for supervising and teaching residents in the inpatient setting. This position supports high-quality patient care, resident education, and program development while meeting ACGME and institutional standards. Faculty are expected to contribute to resident learning through direct supervision, didactic instruction, scholarly activity, and professional development.
Educational Requirements
MD or DO Degree
Minimum Qualifications
Board Certified in Family Medicine (ABFM or AOBFP)
Texas Medical License (or eligible for licensure)
DEA Certification (or eligible to obtain)
Completion of an AOA or ACGME-accredited residency in Family Medicine
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Graduate Medical Education (GME) or teaching residents
Prior hospitalist experience with demonstrated excellence in acute care management
Familiarity with the care of underserved populations and community-based medicine
Engagement in national professional organizations (AAFP, STFM, ACOFP, etc.)

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Clinical Supervision & Teaching:
Participate in a 7-on/7-off inpatient rotation model, with direct supervision of residents daily until 4:00 PM and availability for clinical consultation thereafter.
Provide independent patient care from 1:00–5:00 PM and during protected didactics on Thursday afternoons when residents are unavailable.
Supervise resident management of acutely ill patients, including admissions, discharges, care transitions, and clinical decision-making.
Lead multidisciplinary rounds in collaboration with nursing, pharmacy, case management, and other services to model effective team-based care and communication.
Assist residents in developing care plans, performing safe and evidence-based inpatient management, and coordinating care transitions.
Deliver 1–2 inpatient-focused didactic sessions per month while on service.
Curriculum & Educational Contributions
Support the development and ongoing refinement of the residency inpatient curriculum.
Ensure educational activities align with ACGME Core Competencies and milestone progression.
Serve as a role model for professionalism, clinical excellence, and interprofessional collaboration.
Scholarly Activity & Faculty Development
Maintain active participation in scholarly activities (e.g., QI projects, case presentations, publications) in line with ACGME expectations.
Attend quarterly faculty development sessions and participate in departmental initiatives for teaching excellence and continuous improvement.
Remain current with CME and licensure requirements.
Resident Advising, Recruitment, & Evaluation
Serve as an advisor to assigned residents, conducting biannual meetings to monitor progress and support career development.
Provide timely and constructive resident feedback, evaluations, and contribute to remediation plans as needed.
Participate in the resident recruitment process as requested by the program director, including reviewing applications, conducting interviews with candidates, and participating in ranking discussions.
Serve on at least one residency-related committee (e.g., CCC, PEC, recruitment, etc).
Compliance & Administrative Duties
Maintain compliance with ACGME, CMS, and institutional policies for resident supervision and documentation.
Attend faculty meetings when on clinical service or be available remotely as needed.
Maintain clinical privileges and participate in hospital committees and medical staff activities when designated.
