Overview

Synaptics is looking for a Global Trade Compliance Director to join our dynamic and growing organization. This role requires a solid understanding of logistics practices and trade regulations in a fast-paced environment. You will work closely with internal teams (Operations, Sales, Legal) and external partners (government agencies, logistics providers, and distribution channels) to ensure compliance with global trade regulations. This position reports to the Deputy General Counsel.

The typical base pay range for this position is USD $155,000 - $243,100 per year. Individual pay is determined by many factors including work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual performance bonus, equity, and other benefits. Note that compensation listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.

Responsibilities & Competencies

Job Duties

Responsible for the day-to-day management of export, import, and sanctions compliance policies and procedures aligned with U.S. and international regulations (e.g., EAR, OFAC, ITAR, customs)
Validate ECCN classifications, license determinations, and technical reviews of semiconductor chips, technology, and related software
Ensure proper handling of deemed exports and re-exports, especially in high-risk jurisdictions
Collaborate with internal teams (legal, sales, logistics, engineering, supply chain) to support compliant international operations and customer transactions
Provide advice and counsel on screening results for customers, suppliers, etc.
Provide guidance on trade-related issues during product development and commercialization
Assist with resolution of potential red flags and support internal investigations as needed
Establish and monitor internal controls for trade compliance
Act as the subject matter expert on trade matters

Qualifications (Requirements)

Bachelor's (or advanced) degree in a relevant field or equivalent related practical experience
Advanced certifications in an area of specialty relating to trade and export or equivalent deep knowledge preferred
Licenses associated with customs brokers are helpful but not necessary
15+ years of experience in Trade Compliance, Export Compliance, Government Regulatory practices, Customs, and International Trade Treaties
10+ years of management-level responsibilities for all trade/export control regulations: EAR, ITAR, OFAC, ECCN, HTS, and export license determinations preferred
Strong understanding of U.S. export control regulations (BIS, EAR) and freight forwarding best practices
Experience with Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS) and Export Control Classification Number (ECCN)
Experience using screening tools and conducting Red Flag evaluations and strategy development for manufacturing environments
Ability to develop and operate comprehensive programs, train and audit programs, and speak publicly
Industry leadership activities a plus (panels, speaking engagements, etc.)
No travel required
