The Impact You Will Make
Under the supervision of the Funeral Director, the Funeral Director Apprentice will be responsible for professional embalming and preparation services while coordinating all aspects of funeral arrangements, including ceremonies and logistics. It involves guiding families through service options, managing required documentation, and ensuring smooth execution of funeral services. Additionally, the Funeral Director Apprentice maintains high standards of cleanliness and operational efficiency within the funeral home.
Performs technical and cosmological embalming services, including preparation of deceased for visitation and/or transfer as required.
Finalizes details discussed during arrangement conferences, i.e., contacts clergy, types of death certificate, distributes service schedule, notifies newspaper, and prepares draft prayer cards.
Directs funeral services and visitation, including greeting family members, opening parlor, coordinating and instructing pallbearers, greeting and escorting clergy to chapel. May assist with funerals while not acting as primary director or act as hearse or limousine driver when needed.
Explains service options to customers and provides pricing information under the supervision of a licensed Funeral Director.
Prepares or coordinates preparation and issuance of permits and documents associated with funerals and embalming. This includes death certificate, permits from coroner, writing embalming case study and others as required.
Removes and transports deceased from home or hospital to funeral home.
Maintains cleanliness of preparation room and equipment.
Performs all other related functions as assigned.
Requirements: Requires some education from an accredited school of embalming or mortuary science with a desire to become a licensed funeral director.
Possesses a high degree of concentration and attention for a continuous period of time.
Able to occasionally stand/walk and frequently lift or push.
Possesses valid state driver's license.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to interact and collaborate effectively with others in a team atmosphere

They include skill set, experience and training, licensure and certification, and other business and organizational needs. This range estimate has been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each hire.
