Description: Position Summary :
The Fiscal Director in a Head Start program plays a crucial role in managing and overseeing the financial operations and budgetary aspects of the organization. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with fiscal policies, regulations, and reporting requirements. The Fiscal Director works closely with executive management and program leaders to support the achievement of program goals while maintaining fiscal stability.
Duties and Responsibilities :
1. Financial Management and Reporting :
Develop, implement, and monitor the Head Start program's annual budget, ensuring alignment with the program's objectives and requirements.
Prepare financial reports, statements, and projections for executive management, board members, and funding agencies, providing clear and accurate insights into the program's financial performance.
Monitor financial trends and identify areas of concern, proposing and implementing strategies for improvement and cost optimization.
2. Compliance and Regulatory Oversight :
Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, as well as funding agency requirements related to financial management.
Prepare for and assist with fiscal audits, ensuring all financial records and transactions are well-documented and in accordance with established guidelines.
Stay updated on changes in fiscal policies and regulations, communicating relevant updates to program leadership and staff.
3. Grant Management and Reporting :
Oversee grant applications and ensure timely and accurate submissions to secure funding for the Head Start program.
Collaborate with program managers and grant writers to ensure grants are appropriately budgeted, monitored, and reported on in compliance with funding agency guidelines.
4. Budget Analysis and Forecasting :
Analyze budgetary trends, expenditures, and revenue to provide insights for decision-making and future planning.
Develop financial forecasts to guide strategic decision-making and ensure the program's financial stability and sustainability.
5. Team Management and Training :
Supervise and support the fiscal department staff, providing guidance, training, and professional development opportunities to enhance their skills and performance.
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment within the fiscal team and across other program departments.
6. Collaboration and Communication :
Collaborate with program leadership and other departments to address financial challenges and promote best practices in fiscal management.
Communicate financial information effectively to non-financial stakeholders, ensuring they understand the financial implications of their decisions
Requirements: Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
At least 5 years of experience in financial management, budgeting, and grant administration, with specific experience in the nonprofit sector, education, or social services.
Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to Head Start funding and financial management.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex financial data.
Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
Proficiency in financial software and tools.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
