The Family and Sports Program Director at Parkway Community YMCA will lead, develop, and launch activities that bring youth, caregivers, and families closer together, encourage good health, and foster connections through various activities and shared interests. Under the supervision of the Associate Branch Executive, the Youth and Family Director oversees the administration and operations of program areas including youth sports, adult sports, Child Watch, Parents Night Out, teen activities, the annual campaign, and special events, ensuring a positive, safe, and enriching environment aligned with YMCA core values and mission.
Key Responsibilities Ensure programs and services meet community needs by supervising existing activities, establishing new programs, and expanding within the community, in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
Assist in marketing and distributing program information.
Manage program rosters, enrollment, reporting, and evaluate program effectiveness.
Recruit, hire, train, and develop diverse staff and volunteers to meet program goals and quality standards, using strategies to motivate and empower.
Model relationship-building skills; develop and maintain collaborative relationships internally and externally, including with community organizations.
Develop and monitor program budgets to meet fiscal objectives.
Secure and schedule facilities; create and schedule classes, activities, and events.
Provide direct instruction/facilitation of 10-15 hours per week, securing staffing and coverage as needed.
Collaborate with other branch departments on programs and communication.
Develop new programs, events, or services aligned with community needs and strategic goals, fostering relationships between participants, caregivers, and children.
Offer a variety of program offerings including physical activity, arts, dance, and sports for children from birth to 13 years old.
Welcome new and current families, supporting their needs with appropriate programs and services.
Lead leagues serving up to 600 participants.
Participate in the Annual Campaign as a staff worker and sustaining member.
Provide direct instruction/facilitation of 20 hours per week emphasizing skill development and character building.
Oversee administration and operations of youth sports programming, including planning, staffing, risk management, and budgeting.
Participate in community field and gymnasium summits.
Manage the Stay & Play program for children aged 6 weeks to 12 years, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and interactive environment.
Ensure cleanliness and safety standards of all Youth/Teen facilities.
Develop and implement impactful teen programming both inside and outside the YMCA.
Develop and manage the Youth and Family Department budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and achievement of financial goals.
Teach or coach youth and family programs as needed.
Support initiatives for membership retention and Annual Giving goals.
Build and maintain positive relationships with members, staff, and the community.
Promote YMCA mission, goals, and objectives to all stakeholders.
Partner with organizations aligned with YMCA’s mission to meet community needs.
Enhance off-site youth programming to improve access and reach underserved populations.
Perform other duties as assigned; evening, holiday, and weekend shifts are expected.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Health Sciences, or related field.
YMCA Team Leader certification.
Minimum 3 years’ experience working with youth and families.
Two years of supervising and developing staff and volunteers.
Understanding of children’s developmental skills and program development.
Four years of sports coaching experience.
Experience leading sports leagues.
Passionate about community building and relationship development through programs.
Experience creating, implementing, and evaluating youth and family programs and events.
Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Strong organizational skills, initiative, and ability to prioritize.
Completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Volunteer Work, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Blood Borne Pathogens training within 30 days of hire.
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups.
Physical Demands Ability to interact physically and verbally with members and staff.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
