Facility Operations Assistant Director, Memorial Union

The Assistant Director, Memorial Union is a full-time, 12-month position reporting to the Director, Memorial Union and serves as a member of the Memorial Union’s professional team within the Division of Student Affairs. The Assistant Director provides leadership for the operations of the Memorial Union and Fischli-Wills Center for Student Success, including custodial, set-up and facilities maintenance. Responsibilities include coordinating the schedules of student and staff, and maintaining the Union facility.
Minimum Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Two – three years of experience related to college unions or facility management
Demonstrated supervisory experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate, organize, and prioritize projects with attention to detail
Understanding of and ability to apply student development concepts and theory; and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Must be able to lift/carry 50 pounds.
Responsibilities:
Manage the daily operations of the Memorial Union including coordinating custodial staff and coordination of set-ups for all spaces reserved through the scheduling office
Plans in advance for staffing and accommodations for events and activities in the Memorial Union.
Works closely with Union staff, as well as Union and Fischli-Wills Center for Student Success tenants and building users to ensure facility needs are met.
Directly supervises 3 full-time staff and 4-5 student employees and oversees 2 additional full-time staff and 15 students.
Learns all audiovisual equipment in the facility for added support as needed.
Manages operations and staffing budgets including projecting operational needs, approving purchases, and monitoring spending
Responding to and providing resolution to guest concerns regarding facility
Assists in creating learning outcomes and assessing learning experiences of student employees.
Makes fiscally responsible decisions related to facilities operations
Serve as an active member of University and Divisional standing and ad hoc committees, including the Memorial Union Policy Board.
Serves as part of the Union leadership team and provide direction and vision for overall Union operations
Oversee outside contract services such as floor refinishing, pesticide and elevator maintenance
Works with the Director of the Memorial Union to create short term and long term plans for equipment replacement and minor renovations.
Inspects work for conformance with health, safety and sanitation standards.
Attends regular Union staff meetings, weekly Operations meetings to review and discuss the upcoming schedules of meetings and events, and also meets regularly with the Union Director to discuss progress towards goals and issues of concern.
In absence of the Director of the Memorial Union, may serve as lead professional staff member within the department
Ability to work nights and weekends as needed and in rotation with other staff providing on-call response as necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
