Location: East Lansing, Michigan, United States Department: Intercollegiate Athletics Position Type: Full Time (90-100%) Union Status: Non-Union Application Period: Opens June 26, 2025, Closes June 26, 2027, 23:55 EDT Salary: Commensurate with Experience Position Summary The Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director, Student-Athlete Management and Administration, will oversee drafting, negotiating, and managing contracts related to Athletics, including NIL licensing agreements, employee contracts, sponsorships, and commercial partnerships. This role will play a key part in departmental strategy regarding benefits caps following the House settlement. Reporting directly to the Vice President and Director of Athletics, with dotted line reporting to the Office of the General Counsel, the position collaborates with athletics leadership, coaches, the Athletics Business Office, Office of Compliance Services, and external consultants. Responsibilities Oversee development, negotiation, and execution of contracts for the Athletics department. Ensure contracts align with strategic goals and comply with legal and regulatory requirements, considering recent legal decisions and revenue-sharing models with student-athletes. Manage the assignment and distribution of institutional benefits under the House settlement. Collaborate with coaches, administrators, and external parties to secure favorable contract terms, mitigate risks, and adhere to budgets. Evaluate risks and propose mitigation strategies, ensuring legal compliance. Maintain accurate records of negotiations and agreements. Provide training to Athletics staff on contract matters and recent legal implications. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Juris Doctorate (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school. Admission or eligibility for admission to the Michigan State Bar within 6 months. At least five years of experience in drafting and negotiating contracts. Experience working with sports agents or advisors. Understanding of collegiate and/or professional sports. Excellent writing, advocacy, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
