Our client, a respected nonprofit serving vulnerable populations across the Pittsburgh region, is seeking a mission-driven, strategic Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter of impact and growth. This unique opportunity is ideal for a visionary leader who thrives in both high-level strategy and hands-on executionand who is passionate about increasing access to healthcare for those who need it most.
Each year, our client organizes a large-scale, two-day free clinic that delivers vital dental, vision, and hearing services to approximately 1,500 patients, mobilizing an equally large volunteer base of clinical and non-clinical professionals. With strong support from the community and plans to expand through additional "mini" clinics in rural areas, this is a pivotal time to step into a newly created Executive Director role and help shape the organization's future.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Organizational Strategy & Leadership
- Partner with the Board of Directors to lead the execution of a multi-year strategic vision.
- Serve as a dynamic leader for staff, volunteers, and stakeholderspromoting collaboration, innovation, and service excellence.
- Act as the face of the organization, representing its mission in the media, at events, and in public forums.
Program & Operational Oversight
- Lead the successful planning and delivery of the annual flagship clinic.
- Support the potential development and launch of smaller satellite clinics to serve rural areas throughout the year.
- Ensure operational efficiency through improved policies, data collection, volunteer engagement, and resource management.
Community & Government Partnerships
- Cultivate strategic relationships with local health systems, federal agencies, and public health leaders.
- Secure pathways for patients' follow-up care and work toward continuing education credits for clinical volunteers.
- Advocate for systemic change that supports expanded healthcare access for underserved populations.
Fundraising, Budgeting & Financial Management
- Develop and execute a robust fundraising strategy including grants, major gifts, sponsorships, and donor cultivation.
- Oversee fiscal management in collaboration with the Board, accounting team, and outside advisors.
- Manage donor acknowledgment, reporting, and compliance for both cash and in-kind contributions.
Board Governance & Stakeholder Relations
- Serve as liaison between the Board of Directors, Advisory Committee, and operational leadership.
- Provide clear, timely updates and performance reports to support effective governance.
- Ensure the organization remains compliant with nonprofit laws, ethical standards, and audit requirements.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Education: Bachelor's degree in nonprofit leadership, public health, business administration, or related field required; Master's preferred.
Experience: 57+ years in executive or senior-level nonprofit leadership, ideally in healthcare or community services.
Fundraising Acumen: Demonstrated success in donor relations, grant writing, and revenue diversification.
Financial Competence: Strong budgeting, reporting, and fiscal accountability.
Relationship Building: Skilled communicator who can effectively engage community leaders, clinical professionals, sponsors, and volunteers.
Mission Commitment: Deep belief in equitable access to healthcare and a strong track record of leading with compassion and integrity.
Plus: Experience working with federal agencies, public health programs, or healthcare disparity initiatives.
