Position Title : Executive Director
Reports to : Board of Directors Supervises: PCW staff, contracted services, and program initiatives Location : Roanoke, VA office
Travel: Frequent local travel required. Occasional state or national travel required.
Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience
Status: Full-time, exempt
Position Summary The Partnership for Community Wellness (PCW) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced executive to provide visionary leadership and strategic oversight for the organization. PCW, a coalition focused on the prevention and reduction of youth and family risk behaviors through education, trauma-informed approaches, and resiliency-building initiatives
Program Fidelity and Technical Assistance
● Serve as primary representative of PCW, maintaining and fostering relationships with key stakeholders, policymakers, and community members.
● Oversee the implementation and adherence to the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF), ensuring needs assessment, capacity building, strategic planning, and program development.
● Conduct presentations and prevention education to local educational agencies.
● Provide ongoing technical assistance and coaching to PCW staff.
● Develop fidelity monitoring tools and provide clear action steps for improvement. Partnership for Community Wellness- Executive Director (Full-Time)
● Identify and share best practices across PCW programs.
● Attend periodic stakeholder engagement meetings at the local, regional, and state levels.
● Supervise and support outreach coordination, partnership management, and marketing efforts to enhance PCW’s visibility and impact.
Program Development & Coordination
● Assist with the development and expansion of PCW programs.
● Monitor progress and support quality improvement of existing programs.
● Assist in updating and standardizing training materials and PCW resources.
● Coordinate PCW-related activities in alignment with strategic priorities. Training & Instructional Support
● Facilitate and support in-person and virtual training events, conferences, and webinars.
● Assist in developing and delivering training content for diverse audiences.
● Serve as a subject matter expert on mental wellness, recovery, addiction, physical wellness, digital health, and overall community wellness.
● Design, develop, and update training content and materials that align with the PCW model, including the creation of a comprehensive training program.
● Direct all grants and funding initiatives.
● Ensure compliance with requirements.
● Ensure all required reporting aligns with PCW and grantor requirements.
● Communicate deadlines, expectations, and compliance updates.
● Collaborate with the Finance Committee, troubleshoot reporting issues, and support local program capacity.
● Develop and implement alternative funding strategies in collaboration with the development committee to ensure financial sustainability
Leadership & Advocacy
● Provide leadership in program development, staff supervision, and volunteer engagement.
● Participate in advocacy efforts with state legislators and policy stakeholders, in coordination with the board of directors.
● Direct and facilitate stakeholder group meetings, including those with law enforcement, peers, and local educational agencies.
● Provide and advocate for professional development and capacity building for staff and coalition members.
● Serve as liaison to professional associations to advance the organization’s public policy and system transformation goals.
● Attend and report monthly to the PCW Board of Directors, providing program updates, strategic insights, and coalition sustainability efforts.
● Lead, attend, and actively participate in regular bi-monthly PCW meetings, as well as occasional educational agency meetings, peer meetings, and law enforcement liaison meetings.
Fiduciary Management
● Oversee contractual agreements, ensuring that performance evaluations and deliverables align with PCW’s mission and standards.
● Oversee the PCW budget.
● Supervise and ensure staff accounting procedures align with grants, as well as the board of directors’ expectations.
Qualifications
● A master’s degree preferred in public health, public administration, social work, education, behavioral health, or a related field is preferred. However, candidates with a bachelor’s degree and extensive relevant professional experience will also be considered.
● Demonstrated expertise in coalition building, strategic planning, and community engagement
● Knowledge of substance abuse prevention, trauma-informed care, and resiliency-building strategies.
● Strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Excellent public relations and advocacy skills are required.
● Proven experience in nonprofit leadership, program development, project management, fundraising, grant writing, public speaking, and facilitation.
● Experience preferred in grant writing, budget management, and reporting.
● Ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and work independently.
● Ability to manage social media accounts for outreach and reporting.
● Ability to conduct efficient and effective meetings, fostering collaboration among stakeholders.
● Ability to make presentations to classrooms and is skilled in classroom management techniques.
● Technologically proficient in Microsoft Office, MS Teams, Google Suite, Zoom, and/or cloudbased collaboration tools.
● Acceptable criminal history record and child protective services check upon hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
● Ability and willingness to travel.
Preferred Attributes
● Prior experience with legislative advocacy or public policy engagement.
● Background in behavioral health, public safety, or community organizing.
● Commitment to advancing equitable, community-based approaches to crisis response.
● Natural collaborator who brings enthusiasm, innovation, and professionalism to their work.
● Ability to self-manage stress and work extended hours when required. This position demands a high level of stamina and a willingness to work flexible, non-traditional hours—it is not a standard 9-to-5 role. Physical, Sensory, and Environmental Requirements To perform the essential functions of PCW, the following requirements apply: Physical Requirements
● Lifting/Carrying: Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials up to 10 pounds (e.g., training supplies, laptop, promotional materials).
● Pushing/Pulling: Light pushing/pulling may be required for transporting materials or setting up displays.
● Use of Equipment: Regular use of computers, printers, and other standard office equipment.
● Mobility: Must be able to sit for extended periods, stand during presentations or training, walk during site visits, and occasionally bend or reach overhead for materials.
● Manual Dexterity: Requires fine manipulation using both hands for typing and handling documents.
● Travel: Occasional in-state travel required to attend meetings, trainings, and events at community or agency locations.
● Work Conditions: Primarily office environment with occasional on-site presence in conference, training, or law enforcement settings.
● Exposure: Rare exposure to dust or odors in community or facility-based locations.
Sensory Requirements
● Vision: Must have close vision for reading documents and screens, and normal or corrected vision for presentations.
● Hearing: Ability to hear normal tones for conversation, phone/video meetings, and presentations.
● Touch: Occasionally required to distinguish surface temperatures or proximity when handling materials or equipment.

Salary Range: $65,000 – $72,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
