Children Rising is a trusted Oakland educational non-profit serving thousands of historically underserved elementary school children in Oakland. Due to the retirement plans of our long-time Executive Director, the Children Rising Board of Directors is seeking a resourceful and visionary executive leader with a passion for making a positive and lasting impact on children and their families, while offering a significant contribution to creating a more equitable future for the youth of Oakland.
Children Rising's mission is to offer hope to the underserved youth of Oakland. Our academic tutoring programs and family support services surround students with a caring community designed to ignite their innate potential and help them develop both academic and life skills.
In partnership with the Children Rising Board, an experienced and talented staff, and a passionate community of dedicated volunteers and donors, the successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to lead the organization to the next level of serving the community, offering expanded solutions and giving hope to at-promise students throughout Oakland. The Executive Director will support, improve, and expand current programs and develop strategies for significantly increasing Children Rising's ability to leverage community resources for the purpose of investing in the next generation.
*About Children Rising*
Children Rising was founded in 2001 to support children and families by networking community support for children attending under-resourced urban schools. As we know, it takes a village to educate our children, and Children Rising's community enablement model was designed to inform, inspire, and align resources for the children from a broad coalition of community partners.
Human capital is our most important resource, and individual volunteer tutors and mentors are at the heart of our mission. Children Rising provides individualized reading and math support from trained, caring volunteer tutors and offers support for families of children enrolled in our programs. We focus our efforts on academics and family partnerships through three key programs: Succeeding by Reading, Path2Math, and FamilyBridge.
With over 200 trained tutors and mentors from throughout our community, we provide elementary school children a "Circle of Care," including one-on-one literacy and math tutoring combined with after-school in-home learning support for families. We know that a child's learning flourishes when engaged families, schools, and communities work together!
Children Rising's annual operating budget of $1,000,000 supports a full-time and part-time staff of fourteen, plus over two hundred volunteers. Administrative offices are located in the heart of downtown Oakland at Telegraph Avenue & 27th Street.
