The Executive Director of Hospitality & Campus Services provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for all hospitality and campus service functions, including dining, campus transportation, mail services, and auxiliary operations. This role ensures service excellence, financial sustainability, and student-centered experience within an organization that generates over $45 million in annual revenue and employs approximately 700+ full-time and part-time staff. The Executive Director collaborates with campus leadership, vendors, and stakeholders to enhance student life and support the university’s academic mission.
Duties/Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership & Planning (30%)
Translate the University vision into an operational plan for hospitality and campus services which will effectively deliver the University goals and meet the evolving needs of students.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
Foster a culture of innovation, sustainability, and customer service excellence.
In collaboration with Human Resources, to build a high-performing team by developing a workforce and succession plan, implementing a talent development and retention strategy, drive engagement through performance management, create a strong workplace culture that will retain a diverse workforce.
Financial & Business Management (30%)
Develop and manage multimillion-dollar budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and revenue generation.
Negotiate contracts with vendors and service providers to optimize costs and quality.
Implement data-informed decision-making for resource allocation and operational improvements.
Cultivate revenue opportunities that will drive year-over-year growth for the University.
Campus Services & Operations (15%)
Manage campus transportation and parking services to enhance efficiency and accessibility.
Supervise printing, mail and package distribution services, ensuring timely and secure delivery.
Oversee conferences and catering, and other auxiliary enterprises that enhance campus life (i.e., Concessions, nutrition outreach, UNH ID Office).
Lead dining services and operations, and retail services to ensure high-quality, diverse, and nutritious meal options.
Stakeholder Engagement & Customer Experience (15%)
Implement feedback mechanisms to measure satisfaction and drive continuous improvement throughout the entire organization.
Build meaningful relationships with various groups (staff, faculty, students, student government and various campus groups) to create a positive, inclusive environment that enhances the university community’s overall experience.
Develop and foster strong relationships with key faculty and staff members at the University, ensuring accessibility, responsiveness, and active listening to feedback.
Build strong relationships with vendors to ensure that we maximize our earning potential and implement cost saving advantages to drive revenue growth.
Compliance, Safety & Sustainability (10%)
Ensure all services comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including health and safety standards.
Develop sustainability initiatives, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and responsible sourcing.
Collaborate with hospitality retail vendors to align offerings with dietary needs, cultural preferences, and sustainability objectives.
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management or a related field, with at least 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in hospitality, campus services, auxiliary operations, or a related area. Alternatively, a combination of education and relevant experience totaling at least 14 years will be considered.
Proven track record driving revenue growth
Demonstrated ability in financial management, strategic planning, problem-solving, continuous improvement, workforce planning, and regulatory compliance.
Experience leading large organizations that are created of smaller organizations that serve many different customers.
Strong organizational and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to foster teamwork, create partnerships, and work across functional teams.
Experience managing large, diverse teams and fostering a culture of service excellence.
Demonstrated ability to work and lead at all levels of the organization.
Ability to make fair, consistent, and effective data informed decisions while delegating responsibilities and holding direct reports accountable.
Dedication to quality, integrity, and continuous improvement in operations.
Strong operational, budgeting, and financial management skills.
Ability to work in a complex environment, assess situations quickly/effectively and make/ implement decisions in high pressure situations.
Strong track record of building and nurturing relationships to meet the needs/demands of the University.
Ability to implement change and manage conflict.
Demonstrated high emotional and social awareness.
Leverage the network of resources to gain market intelligence to improve operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in business administration, hospitality management, public administration, or a related field.
Experience in higher education or a large, complex organization.
Strong technology acumen, including experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, data analytics tools and financial management tools that will measure the effectiveness of operational units
Knowledge of sustainability practices in hospitality and campus services.
