Overview
Executive Director Finance and Performance Improvement at Beth Israel Lahey Health - Non Executive. This role reports to the SVP, Operations CFO and leads a system-level internal consulting group focused on performance improvement, financial and operational excellence, and strategic project management across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Direct and deploy a system-level internal consulting group to enable achievement of mission, vision, strategies, system goals, and strategic business objectives through initiatives and project management support.
- Collaborate with system and facility business partners to improve healthcare value; act as an innovative, strategic partner for teams.
- Co-create, execute, evaluate, and adjust short- and long-term performance improvement goals, strategies, and vision.
- Cultivate a strengths-based culture of continuous learning and improvement with measurable results.
- Monitor and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of patient care processes; streamline financial and operational workflows and patient throughput; facilitate problem resolution.
- Lead planning, analysis, and implementation of projects across inpatient, perioperative, ambulatory, and ancillary settings.
- Direct a team focused on performance improvement, project management, labor productivity, and analysis across the system.
- Lead patient throughput and capacity management programs; drive evidence-based practices using Lean and performance improvement methodologies to achieve sustainable improvements.
- Develop relationships with stakeholders to drive continuous process improvement and transformational change aligned with organizational priorities.
- Develop educational content and training for direct reports and site leaders; mentor leaders and staff in performance improvement and safety activities.
- Assess and facilitate systems/processes to ensure safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-centered care.
- Serve as a system resource and expert in finance and performance improvement methodologies as needed.
- Demonstrate high integrity, initiative, and the ability to work independently and with a team; escalate concerns to executive leadership as appropriate.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in business, Organizational Management, Industrial Engineering, or nursing required.
- Master's degree in business administration, Industrial Engineering, or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Licensure, Certification & Registration:
- Lean/Six Sigma certification and demonstrated experience implementing Lean methodologies preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum seven years progressive clinical and/or administrative experience in a hospital with quality and performance improvement focus. Two years prior supervisory or management experience in a related healthcare field.
- At least 3 years of experience in process improvement required. Preference for experience in nursing, health care operations or consulting in strategic planning, operations management, quality improvement, or process improvement.
- Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Strong understanding of performance improvement methodologies, PDSA cycles, root cause analysis, and change management.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with facility staff and community.
- Proven leadership ability with a track record of bringing complex projects to successful completion on time and on budget.
- Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills; strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated change agent, self-starter and team player; able to work independently with multiple priorities.
- Willingness to think creatively, challenge the status quo, and engage stakeholders diplomatically.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing roles and priorities.
- Commitment to quality customer service, leadership, and professional communication in interactions with colleagues.
- Willingness and ability to commute to multiple practices and office locations.
