Position Overview
The Executive Director of Counseling and Wellness at Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology will lead and manage the mental health services provided to students, balancing clinical responsibilities with administrative oversight. This role is essential in fostering a student-centered, therapeutic environment while integrating clinical care, support wellness initiatives, and digital resources to create a holistic support system for students' mental health needs.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
Clinical Leadership & Service Delivery:
- Maintain an active clinical caseload, providing individual counseling, group therapy, and crisis intervention.
- Supervise and mentor Counseling Services interns, ensuring high-quality care and professional development.
- Integrate digital mental health resources (e.g., telehealth, wellness apps, and online self-help tools) into service delivery, enhancing accessibility for students.
Administrative Leadership:
- Oversee the daily operations of Counseling Center, including scheduling, case management, and crisis management including active participation on the Wellness Team and Vaughn Incident Management (VIM)
- Manage budget, ensuring resources are used efficiently to meet department, division and college goals.
- Analyze data on service utilization, student outcomes, and satisfaction to improve program effectiveness and inform decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards.
Leadership, Student-Centered Approach & Campus Collaboration:
- Develop and lead campaigns to reduce stigma and increase engagement with Counseling Services.
- Manage the Vaughn College food pantry working with the VPSA to maintain appropriate stock and support students experiencing food insecurity.
- Offer workshops for faculty, focusing on mental health, well-being, and strategies for supporting students.
- Outreach and training in relevant topic areas with students and college staff (i.e. Resident Assistants, Orientation Leaders, HEOP)
- Consult with faculty, staff, student organizations, and other campus departments to ensure a coordinated, student-centered approach to mental health, wellness, and academic success.

Education and/or Experience Requirements
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in counseling, psychology, social work, or clinical psychology
- New York State Licensure to practice mental health counseling.
- Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI) certified or willingness to attain within 6 months of hiring.
- Must have direct experience in providing counseling services utilizing crisis intervention protocol and have superior psychotherapy skills.
Professional Skills

- Ability to work with traditional and non-traditional students in a multi-cultural environment with a demonstrated record of flexibility and willingness to serve and interact with the entire campus community.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of counseling records and information.
- Strong interpersonal skills with faculty, staff, and student populations;
- Superior organizational and problem resolution skills;
- Must be able to provide a high level of critical thinking, attention to detail and will operate with a sense of urgency;
- Familiarity and previous administrative office experience and;
- Have the ability to work autonomously when necessary and as a member of the student affairs teams is essential.

- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines and;
- Exercise good general business and counseling judgment, knowledge and practice.
Work environment and physical functions
- This position is in an office environment. Generally, an employee needs to be able to sit, stand, and navigate within the office area. The office equipment, either individually used or shared with a department, is all employees' responsibility.? This position is based on our campus in Queens, NY.? This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (mix between in-person 3-4 days a week and remote 1-2 days a week), subject to change based on college policy and the business needs of the division. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager. Appropriate workspace will be required for remote work.
Compensation: The compensation for this position is expected to range from $90,000-$95,000 per year.
