The Executive Director serves as the leader of a growing nonprofit organization providing inpatient residential therapy treatment, crisis respite, emergency shelter, and outpatient behavioral health services. Guided by the mission of Canopy Village—a trauma-responsive haven, restoring trust and hope for children and families who experience abuse, neglect, or are in crisis—the Executive Director works to advance the vision of compassionate communities where every child feels safe, secure, and is nurtured in a stable and loving family. This role is responsible for strategic leadership, operational excellence, financial sustainability, and mission alignment. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and leads a diverse team of clinical, administrative, and support staff to ensure the highest quality of care for clients and their families.

Requirements:

Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide visionary and strategic leadership to fulfill the organization’s mission and advance its vision.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement organizational strategy, policies, and priorities.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, integrity, and collaboration across all departments.
  • Lead organizational design initiatives to optimize program delivery, staffing structures, and operational efficiency.

Program Oversight

  • Ensure quality, compliance, and best-practice delivery of inpatient residential therapy, crisis respite, emergency shelter, and outpatient behavioral health programs.
  • Oversee clinical and administrative teams, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, licensure standards, and accreditation guidelines.
  • Promote innovation in program development and service delivery to meet emerging community needs.

Financial Management & Budget Oversight

  • Work with the finance team to develop and manage an annual budget aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Demonstrate strong budget management skills to ensure financial sustainability and transparency.
  • Partner with billing and compliance staff to expand clinical billing capacity and diversify revenue streams.
  • Maintain strong relationships with payers, funders, and government agencies to sustain and grow funding.

Community Engagement & Advocacy

  • Serve as the public face of the organization, representing it to stakeholders, partners, donors, and the media.
  • Build and maintain strong community relationships to enhance visibility, partnerships, and funding opportunities.
  • Advocate for policies and resources that support behavioral health and vulnerable populations.

Board Relations

  • Provide regular, transparent reporting to the Board of Directors on organizational performance, opportunities, and risks.
  • Support board development, governance, and engagement efforts.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in behavioral health, healthcare administration, nonprofit management, business management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in executive leadership within a nonprofit, healthcare, or behavioral health setting.
  • Proven experience in clinical billing expansion, revenue diversification, and payer negotiations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in organizational design, change management, and operational growth.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements in behavioral health services, CARF preferred.
  • Exceptional communication, strategic thinking, budget management, and relationship-building skills.

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Full-time, exempt position.
  • Requires occasional evening and weekend work for board meetings, events, or urgent operational needs.
  • Must be able to travel within the community and region as needed.
