How youll contribute
A Director of Emergency Services who excels in this role: oversees staffing, budgeting and patient, employee and physician satisfaction within the Emergency Department. It also monitors volume and provides education and coaching to staff regarding policies, procedures and new processes and equipment. The Director of the Emergency Department also leads and manages department staff. This is a department of nursing service position that provides delivery of patient care with the knowledge of a Registered Nurse and demonstrates the clinical ability to work as an RN on the unit. This role also completes required documentation; participates in patient/family teaching and discharge planning and provides leadership by working cooperatively and effectively with physicians, ancillary staff and other administrative and support personnel in maintaining the standards of professional nursing practice in the multidisciplinary clinical setting. They may also perform the following functions:
Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.
Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth. Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
Ensures that the staff performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Assures that the staff follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
Able to interpret data about the patient's status to identify each patient's age-specific needs and provide care needed by patients.
Directs staff on treating patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family. Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.
Collaboratively works with staff to participate in ongoing Quality performance improvements throughout the year
Ensures all staff is educated regarding pain management. Reviews documentation of pain management as it relates to hospital policy and procedure. Responsible for communicating the findings of results to all staff

Qualifications:
What were looking for
Applicants should have a current UT or compact RN license and possess an associate degree from an accredited nursing school (Bachelors Degree in Nursing is preferred or equivalent work experience required). Additional requirements include:
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 60 days of hire. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire. TNCC within 1 year of hire. ENCP optional. If past due, employees will have 60 days to bring them to date.
