Job Description
About the Role:
You’ll lead our electrical engineering discipline, focusing on quality, team development, resource management, and client success. As Engineer of Record (EOR), you’ll take responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of our deliverables while also guiding the growth and performance of the team. From arc-flash studies to full-facility designs, you’ll be involved at every level—from the first conversation with a client to the final deliverable on-site.
Key Areas of Impact:
- Be the Benchmark: Set the standard for electrical engineering excellence—every detail, every time. As Engineer of Record, you’ll lead QA/QC for electrical deliverables and ensure that every calculation, schematic, and system study reflects the highest level of precision, safety, and code compliance. You’re the technical authority your team and clients rely on.
- Lead with Purpose: Develop people, shape process, and strengthen team performance. You’ll provide mentoring, run technical training sessions, and establish best-in-class standards and workflows. Whether it’s a one-on-one check-in or a full-team workshop, your leadership style fosters growth, confidence, and accountability.
- Department Builder: Manage the pulse of the department—from daily workload to long-term growth. You’ll balance staffing with project needs, lead weekly resourcing meetings, and recruit top talent as you shape the team’s future. Your planning and foresight keep projects on track and the department evolving with intention.
- Execution Driver: Own the flow of work from concept through delivery—on time and on budget. Whether you’re leading an arc-flash study, supporting a multi-discipline facility design, or managing project scope and schedules, you’ll ensure all moving parts are synchronized and the team is firing on all cylinders.
- Client Partner: Be the technical face of ZAP for our clients—and the strategic voice inside the room. You’ll sponsor projects, manage client relationships, and support business development by scoping opportunities and aligning deliverables with client expectations. Your mix of technical depth and relationship savvy builds long-term trust and results.
- 10+ years of electrical engineering experience on multi-disciplinary projects
- 3+ years in a supervisory or leadership role
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent experience)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (required)
- PEng license (preferred)
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with experience guiding technical teams through complex deliverables
- Strong technical background in equipment sizing, medium voltage relay programming, hazardous area classification, and electrical design
- Strong conceptual and technical understanding of common power system analyses such as load flow, short circuit, coordination, arc-flash, motor starting, and harmonics, with familiarity with common analysis tools (ETAP, SKM, EasyPower)
- A collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to see the big picture while tracking the details
- A growth-oriented mindset that derives fulfillment from mentoring and developing team members for success
