Description of Role: The Director of US Regulatory Affairs is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of regulatory compliance related to import and export operations. This role ensures adherence to customs regulations, trade laws, and Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements, while driving operational excellence, risk mitigation, and strategic regulatory guidance across the organization. Principal Accountabilities and or Duties: Regulatory Expertise & Guidance Serve as the primary advisor on import/export restrictions, trade barriers, and customs compliance. Provide expert interpretation of regulatory requirements from key agencies including CBP and PGAs, including the FDA, USDA, AMS, APHIS, FSIS, and others. Stay current with evolving trade laws, international agreements, and government agency mandates. Compliance & Risk Management Develop and implement robust compliance programs and risk mitigation strategies. Identify areas of non-compliance and lead the development of corrective action plans. Ensure full adherence to government regulations and internal policies related to the importation of goods. Audit & Assessment Conduct audits and assessments of customs entries and PGA data to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance. Monitor and report on Key Results Objectives (KROs), initiating action plans for areas below standard. Operational Excellence Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, compliance, and profitability. Review and refine branch processes to maximize operational margins and service quality. Identify and address barriers to service delivery and recommend solutions to improve client satisfaction and operational performance.
Client & Account Management Oversee the onboarding of new accounts, ensuring seamless transition and regulatory alignment. Maintain and optimize databases related to customs transactions, compliance records, and regulatory documentation. Manage the acquisition and renewal of continuous surety bonds. Post-Entry & Regulatory Filings Direct post-entry activities including ruling requests, prior disclosures, Customs Form 28 & 29 responses, refunds, protests, and drawback claims. Evaluate service requirements versus compensation and recommend adjustments to improve process efficiency or pricing models All other duties as assigned Key Qualifications: U.S. Customs Brokers License is required. NCBFAA Certified Customs Specialist is an asset. High School Diploma required. College or University Degree is an asset. Extensive experience in US customs regulations, international trade compliance, and PGA requirements. Proven leadership in regulatory affairs, risk management, and operational process improvement. Strong analytical, communication, and strategic planning skills. Ability to work cross-functionally and influence change across departments. Problem solving, accuracy, attention to detail and analytical ability are required.
