Overview Join to apply for the Director US AML Risk Management role at BMO U.S. This role sits in BMO’s Enterprise Risk Group and focuses on governance, risk oversight, and strategic alignment across the enterprise. You’ll design and implement AML risk frameworks and methodologies, guide the business in updating procedures, and drive alignment across all three lines of defense in both the US and Canada. This is a relationship-heavy, influence-driven role where your ability to manage stakeholders, navigate complex organizational dynamics, and lead large risk forums will be key to success. What You’ll Do Lead the development and execution of AML risk management strategies and frameworks. Provide oversight and guidance on AML governance and risk practices across business units. Collaborate with senior leaders and stakeholders across 1LOD, 2LOD, and 3LOD to ensure alignment and best practices. Represent the AML Risk team in high-level risk meetings and regulatory discussions. Manage and mentor a team of professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence. Drive continuous improvement in AML risk methodologies and business procedures. Influence and navigate internal politics to build consensus and drive change. What You Bring 10+ years of AML experience with a strong foundation in risk management. Proven leadership experience managing teams and presenting at senior levels. Deep understanding of AML frameworks, governance structures, and regulatory expectations. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to delegate and represent your team effectively. Strategic mindset with the ability to balance detail orientation and big-picture thinking. Role Context & Responsibilities (Expanded) Provides oversight, monitoring and reporting on financial crime risks for a designated portfolio. Develops and monitors risk management framework that includes the governance framework & practices leveraged across BMO to manage financial crime risks. Provides policies & standards, methodologies and controls that increase transparency, accuracy and consistency across groups. Works with stakeholders to implement the methodology, metrics and program standards for the assigned portfolio to ensure compliance as well as effective monitoring, timely reporting and identification of action plans. Recommends business priorities, advises on resource requirements and develops a roadmap for strategic execution. Manages resources and leads the execution of strategic initiatives to deliver on business and financial goals. Measures the effectiveness of the risk governance system and framework and recommends changes as required. Acts as the prime contact for internal/external stakeholder relationships, including regulators, and represents the risk program during regulatory audits and examinations. Leads the development of the communication strategy to positively influence or change behavior and leads change management programs of varying scope and type. Assesses and adapts existing operational programs and develops new capabilities for ongoing success. Manages the review and sign-off process for relevant regulatory reporting and may provide specialized support for other regulatory requirements. Administers and maintains financial crime risk program activities in adherence to all policies, procedures and established processes. Identifies potential risk situations, makes recommendations or escalates as per guidelines, and develops in-depth knowledge of business and related risk management requirements and regulatory guidance. Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders in providing second line of defense support; manages data, analyses, forecasting and visualization in line with data governance standards. Qualifications Typically 9+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field or equivalent. Expert knowledge of financial crime risk management practices and regulatory requirements. Expert knowledge of the designated business/product portfolio and quantitative techniques. Expert knowledge of risk policy frameworks, and related quality control/testing frameworks. Strong verbal and written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, and cross-group collaboration abilities. Able to manage ambiguity and make data-driven decisions. Salary & Benefits $137,000.00 - $238,000.00 Pay Type: Salaried The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type. Salaries will vary by location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications. Total compensation may include incentives, bonuses, and other perks.
