Job Purpose We are seeking an innovative and motivated individual highly experienced in genetics and translational medicine to join the Translational & Clinical Genetics team, within GSK Human Genetics and Genomics. The successful candidate will conduct hands-on data analyses and provide strategic leadership within cross‑functional scientific teams to identify, develop, and deliver novel programmes to impact the GSK pipeline. You will have deep expertise in genetics and experience integrating genetics with genomics (for example, proteomics) and clinical phenotypes in data analyses. You will understand the full context and nuances of scientific questions and link that understanding to the design and delivery of customised analyses with expert interpretation and recommendations. Your work will apply across therapeutic areas and stages of drug discovery and clinical development to inform target and biomarker discovery, disease and mechanistic understanding, indication and patient subgroup selection, and treatment response optimisation using precision medicine approaches.
The successful candidate will have leadership experience, be highly collaborative and thrive in a multidisciplinary, scientifically driven environment interacting with GSK scientists and physicians across preclinical and clinical functions. You will be encouraged to identify, establish, and oversee collaborations with external collaborations aligned to GSK strategic priorities. You will be supported in developing your scientific and leadership skills through impactful work, development programmes, representation at external scientific functions, presentations, and peer‑reviewed publications.
PLEASE NOTE: This career opportunity requires an on‑site office presence (minimum of two days a week) in one of GSK’s US (PA or MA) or UK (Stevenage) sites.
Key responsibilities This role will provide you the opportunity to lead key activities to progress your career. These responsibilities include some of the following:
Harness deep expertise in genetics with integration of genomic (genetic and proteomic) and clinical phenotypic data to undertake hands‑on translational analyses to impact the GSK pipeline.
Utilize your translational expertise in close collaboration with GSK scientists and physicians to identify, develop, and deliver novel programs of data‑driven work to aid drug discovery and clinical development.
Provide strategic leadership to cross‑functional translational teams, with emphasis on project‑based work across GSK priority therapy areas.
Identify, establish and oversee external scientific collaborations focused on new data generation, access, and analysis to catalyse translational insights relevant to GSK priorities, and potentially include experimental medicine studies.
Communicate analysis findings with expert interpretation and recommendations to project teams and a broad range of stakeholders.
Work with focus and agility to deliver objectives, applying strong statistical, analytic, and critical thinking skills with deep translational context.
Stay informed about emerging technologies and methodologies in translational genetics and genomics.
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous professional learning within the team;
Basic qualifications We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
Medical degree
PhD or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., translational genetics, genetic epidemiology, biomedical statistics, computational sciences, bioinformatics or machine learning)
Documented academic and/or clinical research publication history or history of medical practice in the fields noted above
Broad clinical knowledge across therapeutic areas and experience of clinical research to investigate translational questions
Hands‑on substantial experience working with genetic data and conducting analyses that integrate genetics with genomics (for example, proteomics) and clinical phenotypes to deliver novel insights
Ability to design and deliver innovative analyses addressed to a given scientific question with expert interpretation and recommendations in translational medicine or drug discovery/development settings
Experience with relative and absolute summary measures to aid interpretation of group comparisons and clinical utility of findings
Proficiency in at least one of R or Python with a track record of writing reproducible and scalable code
Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences
Excellent collaboration and partnership skills to work with cross‑functional internal and external stakeholders
Knowledge of stages of drug discovery and development with understanding of biomarkers and precision medicine concepts
Preferred qualifications If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
Experience in the development and leadership of experimental medicine and recontact by genotype studies
Strong leadership skills, demonstrating vision and strategy to influence decisions and drive activities from ideas to data‑driven insights to impact on the GSK portfolio
Experience setting up and overseeing external collaborations
Experience working in different trusted research environments (TREs)
Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and in multidisciplinary teams
