Overview

Director, Technical Standards – RISC-V Software role at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. The Director of Technical Standards will work closely with internal and external partners to improve and evolve industry technical standards while representing Qualcomm as a delegate in standardization forums.

Responsibilities

  • Understand semiconductor industry landscapes and domestic/international competitors’ strengths and weaknesses.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to identify existing and emerging standards for Qualcomm to focus on.
  • Work with external partners in developing and promoting standards.
  • Help formulate, maintain and execute Qualcomm’s strategy for semiconductor standards.
  • Collaborate with attorneys to file patents that protect novel IP aspects of any inventions.
  • Focus area: RISC-V software standards; where RISC-V processor and standards knowledge is required.

Requirements and Skills

  • RISC-V software standards knowledge and experience is a must.
  • Legacy architecture knowledge is a plus.
  • System software development experience in firmware, kernel or compilers is a must.
  • Experience with boot and runtime services, OpenSBI, kernel virtualization, hypervisor, Android, Linux, RTOS, system library optimization, and QEMU is highly desirable.
  • Ecosystem and UEFI experience is a plus.
  • Government affairs background is a plus.

Qualifications (per Leveling Description)

  • Master's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • 10+ years software engineering, firmware, open-source development, or related work experience
  • 7+ years of experience with standards bodies
  • Strong networking and influencing skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of semiconductor technologies
  • Understanding of international semiconductor landscapes and strategic incentives of major players
  • Understanding of open-source licensing models and open-source development ecosystems
  • Familiarity with Qualcomm semiconductor products and technologies is a plus
  • Experience with or network of contacts in research and academic community is a plus
  • Strong documentation, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • 2+ years working with operating budgets and/or project financials
  • 3+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership
  • 4+ years in a technical leadership role
  • 7+ years of experience with semiconductor standards organizations and forums (e.g., RISC-V, JEDEC, UEFI, Accellera, Si2, SEMI, OCP, ISO, IEC, IEEE, INCITS, GSA, SIA, IMEC, SRC)
  • 8+ years software/firmware design, modeling, or test experience

Education and Experience

  • Required: Master’s degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • Preferred: Doctorate in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum Qualifications: various combinations of degree and 8+ years (or 7+ / 6+ years for higher degrees) in Software/Hardware/Systems Engineering

Global travel several times per year for standards organization forums.

Pay Range and Benefits

$212,800.00 - $352,400.00

The pay range reflects the broad minimum to maximum for this job code/location. Qualcomm also offers a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and potential RSU grants, along with a comprehensive benefits package. Recruiters can discuss all offerings in more detail.
