We Are Looking For
The Director, Supplier Quality is a senior leader responsible for establishing and executing the supplier quality strategy across FDH Electronics. This role oversees supplier quality engineering, establishes and executes the supplier quality strategy, integrates supplier processes into the unified FDHE QMS/eQMS, and ensures purchased materials, components, and services meet AS9100/ISO 9001, customer, and regulatory requirements. The Director partners with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain and Sales to drive supplier performance, reduce defects, accelerate flow, and secure a reliable, compliant supply base. The position focuses on proactive engagement, qualification, and continuous improvement of suppliers.
What You’ll Do
As a Director, Supplier Quality, you’ll be responsible for:
Strategy & Leadership : Develop and deploy the enterprise Supplier Quality strategy in alignment with Quality, QMS unification, business goals, customer requirements, Operations, and Supply Chain goals. Lead a high‑performing team across regions.
Supplier Qualification & Approval : Oversee supplier assessments, audits, and risk evaluations, and maintain the ASL in partnership with Supply Chain. Ensure adherence to AS9100, ISO 9001, and customer-specific requirements for supplier approval and maintenance.
First Article & PPAP : Lead planning and approval of AS9102 First Article Inspections (FAI) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions to verify supplier readiness and process capability. Partner with Engineering/Operations on control plans, inspection/test strategy, and acceptance criteria.
Purchasing & Engineering Support : Partner with Supply Chain, Engineering, and Operations teams to review technical requirements, quality clauses, and inspection plans during sourcing and design phases.
Quality Alerts & Containment : Establish processes for issuing quality alerts, supplier notifications, and rapid containment of supplier issues. Coordinate cross-functional teams for effective resolution. Own supplier-related nonconformances, escape investigations, and CoPQ/cost recovery where appropriate.
Metrics & Performance Management : Define and manage supplier quality KPIs (PPM, OTD, FAI/PPAP success rate, CAR aging). Lead regular performance reviews and business reviews with strategic suppliers.
RCCA & Continuous Improvement : Drive structured problem solving (8D, 5-Why) with suppliers to prevent recurrence of defects. Support Lean/Six Sigma projects and supplier capability enhancements.
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight : Ensure supplier conformance to regulatory, customer, and contractual requirements, including counterfeit part prevention (AS5553/AS6174) and special process controls.
Supplier Development : Partner with Supply Chain and Sales to segment suppliers and execute development plans for high-risk or strategic suppliers; provide coaching, training, and escalation management.
Escapes & Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) : Own the process for supplier-related nonconformances, escape investigations, and cost recovery where appropriate.
Stakeholder Communication : Prepare executive reports and present supplier quality performance to senior leadership and key customers.
Team Development : Recruit, mentor, and develop Supplier Quality talent; establish clear career paths and succession plans.
QMS Unification & eQMS Integration: Harmonize supplier quality processes, templates, and records into the unified FDHE QMS; ensure 100% document control via eQMS. Partner with IT/BI to enable digital dashboards (supplier KPIs, audit readiness, risk signals).
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or Supply Chain (advanced degree preferred)
Deep experience in quality or supplier quality management within manufacturing/aerospace or regulated industries, with 5+ years in senior leadership
Strong knowledge of AS9100/ISO 9001, PPAP, FAI, APQP, and related supplier quality tools
Demonstrated experience in supplier audits, RCCA, and implementing quality systems at suppliers
Proven ability to influence suppliers and internal stakeholders to achieve measurable improvements
Strong analytical skills and proficiency in supplier metrics dashboards
ASQ certifications (CQE, CMQ/OE, CQA) or Lean Six Sigma Black Belt preferred
Knowledge of counterfeit parts prevention standards (AS5553/AS6174) and special processes (NADCAP, plating, heat treat, etc.) a plus
Special Requirements:
Citizen, Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) or asylee/refugee status as defined by 8 1324b(a)(3) required.
