Director, Sports Operations (5173U), Intercollegiate Athletics – 80448 at the University of California, Berkeley. The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics supports 30 varsity programs and more than 850 student-athletes. This role assists various sports teams with operational needs and provides operating and strategic support for intercollegiate student-athlete programs.

Responsibilities

  • Olympic Sports Operations for teams, as assigned.
  • Team Administration, Team/Coach/Recruit Travel, Reimbursements, Purchasing, team meetings, event planning, Team Banquets, Team Meals, Alumni Events, Special Events, etc.
  • Serve as a liaison to support units, providing coaching staffs with tools and information to streamline administrative tasks.
  • Independently direct and assign tasks to Olympic Sports interns to support assigned athletic programs.
  • Work with post-eligibility student-athlete workers and assign tasks to support operational and administrative aspects of each program.
  • Participate in department-wide projects such as the Post-Eligibility/Medically Ineligible student-athlete work program; collection and development of Competition and Practice Schedules & Game Guarantees; coordination with Events and Facilities units.
  • Support Home Events as directed by Event staff.
  • Engage in other assigned duties, including professional development.

Required Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of program activity and best practices.
  • Independent thinker and worker who acts with the department’s best interest in mind.
  • Problem-solving skills; multi-tasking, handling frequent interruptions, and effective listening.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications.
  • Understanding of or ability to quickly learn UC rules, budget, account and fund management, and personnel management processes.
  • Knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques.
  • Experience with events planning, cash handling, risk management, website basics, accounting, and payroll.
  • Strong short-term planning, analysis, problem-solving and customer service abilities.
  • Knowledge of management and coordination of youth programs.
  • Current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the Pac-12, NCAA, and related organizations; commitment to compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPR Certification.

Salary & Benefits

Salary range budgeted for this position: $60,000.00 - $63,000.00 per year. This is an exempt, monthly-paid position. For information on UC Berkeley’s comprehensive benefits package, visit the Compensation & Benefits site.

Under California law, pay is posted within the announced range and may vary with experience and qualifications.
