Director, Software Engineering-Card Partnerships Data

As a Capital One Director of Software Engineering in Card Partnerships, you'll work on "everything data" in support of Card Partnerships. Card Partnerships is a full scale (and growing) line of business providing Cobrand and Private Label Credit Card products to both Consumer and Business customers. Working in concert with external clients from leading brands across retail, travel, and specialty verticals, and internal leaders across product, design, marketing, risk, and technology, you will leverage the power of data to unlock value for our clients, customers, and stakeholders.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to define, build, and operate a robust Data Product that captures insights from our Partner Clients, enables deeply personalized content, tailors customer offers, and optimizes credit decisioning. You will build reporting capabilities to service both internal Capital One associates and external employees of partner clients, integrating market-leading BI tooling with in-house technology for a seamless user experience. You will lead the systems that exchange mission-critical data with our partners, using a combination of real-time APIs, asynchronous streams, and batch files.

In support of these responsibilities, we are seeking a technology leader with a blend of acumen across People Leadership, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, and Architecture. Candidates should be passionate about maintaining a well-managed suite of systems centered around Partnerships Data, while driving innovation and forward-leaning investment that leverages and builds upon shared technical platforms.

This individual will be an engineering leader with experience leading full stack teams who enjoys solving complex business problems in a fast-paced, collaborative, inclusive, and iterative delivery environment. At Capital One, you'll be part of a collaborative team of innovators, problem-solvers, and technologists, who love to solve real problems and meet real customer needs.

Our technical environment is built on modern, cloud-native technologies and architectural patterns. While we value your unique experience, you'll primarily be working with teams using technologies like:

  • Cloud: AWS (Glue, DynamoDB, Lambda, S3, etc.)
  • Languages: Python, Java, and Scala for our data pipelines and APIs
  • Frameworks: Apache Spark for large-scale data processing
  • Integrations: RESTful APIs, GraphQL, Kafka Streaming, and Batch processing

You will:

  • Lead, manage and grow multiple teams of product focused software engineers
  • Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers in your organization
  • Work with Product Managers to understand business needs and build delivery roadmaps
  • Partner with Architects & Distinguished Engineers to align and build toward target architectures
  • Continuously improve software engineering practices throughout design, development, and testing phases of the SDLC
  • Work within and across Agile teams to deliver high-performing software across full-stack development tools and technologies
  • Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of Partnerships Data solutions
  • Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends and experiment with and learn new technologies, especially related to Data
  • Engage with internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering community
  • Encourage innovation, use of emerging technologies, teamwork, and diversity of thought
  • Work across the Partnerships Segment to improve the velocity of your and other teams
  • Lead efforts to deploy new and existing applications into cloud native AWS environments
  • Seek out and action opportunities to contribute to shared platforms and maximize the value of investments for the Card division and overall Enterprise
