Overview The Treasury is the United Kingdom’s economics and finance ministry, responsible for formulating and implementing the government’s financial and economic policy. This role can be based in London or Darlington, with occasional travel to the Darlington Economic Campus.
Key Responsibilities Jointly lead the Public Spending Group to deliver strategic aims of controlling and reporting on public spending, improving value for money and efficiency.
Play a key role in fiscal events, advising the Chancellor on spending decisions and working closely with colleagues on tax, borrowing, growth and the economy.
Lead the government’s strategic approach to public spending through budgets and spending reviews, ensuring alignment with the Chancellor and Chief Secretary’s plans.
Work across Whitehall and public services to set Treasury aims, understand departmental issues and challenges.
Oversee public sector pension and pay policy and coordinate Treasury input on industrial relations.
Inspire and motivate teams, reshaping work across the group as part of the Treasury’s Vision for the Future.
Person Specification Excellent understanding of financial management and the public spending framework for central government.
Strategic thinking with the ability to work across large, complex policy areas and identify key issues.
Strong leadership skills to build resilience and motivate teams in a changing policy environment.
Exceptional stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills, including engagement with Ministers and senior officials.
