Job Summary : We seek a Director of Platform Engineering to set the vision, strategize, and drive the next growth phase. You will lead a team of skilled engineers in building and enhancing our platform, which powers our healthcare solutions. The organization owns core backend systems like claims engine, EDI integrations, API platforms, authorization services, data pipelines, and shared service layers. This role focuses on foundational platforms and backend systems that enable product velocity, service reliability, and intelligent data flow, not on infrastructure or DevOps. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in system design, domain-driven architecture, microservices, event-based systems, and scalability. Experience in enabling AI/ML across our ecosystem is also desired. What you will do : Strategic Leadership : Define and drive the platform's technical strategy, aligning with company goals. Partner with executive leadership on architectural decisions and scaling strategies. Contribute to design reviews and technical decisions as needed. Develop and execute a long-term platform roadmap. Lead by example through hands-on contributions and technical guidance. Team Management : Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team, embodying core values. Manage talent development, providing guidance and growth opportunities. Establish effective engineering processes and best practices. Platform Development : Design, develop, and evolve a scalable, secure, and reliable platform. Architect modular, extensible systems supporting rapid growth and integration. Ensure platform security, compliance, and performance optimization. Promote operational excellence with observability, incident response, and automation. Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work with product, design, and other teams to align the platform with requirements. Foster strong organizational partnerships and communication. Budget and Resource Management : Manage engineering budget and resource allocation. Assess and recommend technology investments and optimizations. Quality and Delivery : Drive software quality and predictability. Monitor SLAs, throughput, and error rates; address delays proactively. What you will bring to SmithRx : Bachelor's or higher degree in computer science, software engineering, or related. 12+ years in software development, with 5+ in leadership roles, preferably in startups. Experience leading large engineering teams, including managers. Proven success in building scalable, secure, mission-critical systems. Expertise in operational excellence, processes, and best practices during growth. Ability to navigate ambiguity and build stakeholder trust. Excellent communication and strategic problem-solving skills. Experience with EDI and data integration is a plus. Located in California or on PST timezone is a plus.
