Purpose of the Role: The Director of Transportation is responsible for setting up, overseeing and managing all transportation activities to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations. This role involves strategic planning, execution of transportation plans, and maintaining relationships with external and internal stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Strategic Setup and Planning Establish all transportation-related systems, tools, and processes to prepare for operational launch in 2028. Lead the recruitment and development of a high-performing transportation team. Vendor & Contract Management Negotiate and manage contracts with external transportation providers, including railroads, trucking firms, and leasing companies. Operational Readiness & Execution Oversee day-to-day execution of transportation plans post-launch, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of goods. Coordinate closely with production teams to integrate transportation with production schedules. Cost & Efficiency Optimization Develop and monitor budgets, implement cost-saving measures, and lead efficiency improvement initiatives. Forecasting & Reporting Build forecasting models to anticipate transportation needs and provide regular performance reports and insights to senior leadership. Technology & Systems Implementation Lead the selection and implementation of transportation management software (TMS) and related tools, ensuring effective adoption and integration. Ad Hoc Projects Take ownership of transportation and supply chain-related projects during the start-up phase to support overall business readiness. Qualifications & Experience Bachelors degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; a Masters degree (MBA or MSc in Supply Chain) is a strong asset. Extensive experience in senior-level transportation management within industrial or manufacturing environments. Proven track record of setting up transportation functions for greenfield or start-up operations. Strong expertise in vendor negotiation, contract management, and cost optimization strategies. Hands-on experience implementing transportation management software (TMS) and related digital tools. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and align transportation strategy with business goals. Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills with the ability to work independently and make strategic decisions. Willingness to be based in North Dakota and travel as required.
