Certified Group is seeking an experienced Director of Microbiology Technical Services to lead and manage our national Microbiology Technical Services team. This role reports directly to the Chief Science Officer for Microbiology and plays a pivotal part in supporting both internal laboratories and external clients with advanced microbiological expertise. As Director, you will serve as a senior technical resource, team leader, and key contributor, providing science-based guidance on testing methodologies, contamination issues, and regulatory trends. You will also oversee the implementation of our proprietary software platform, emma, and actively represent Certified Group at industry events and client meetings. Key Responsibilities Lead and mentor the Microbiology Technical Services team to deliver high-quality, timely technical support Provide hands-on troubleshooting and interpretation of microbiological results and methods Offer on-site support for contamination remediation and process improvement at client or lab facilities Guide the implementation of the emma (Environmental Monitoring and Mapping Application) software Maintain expert knowledge of USDA-MLG, FDA-BAM, ISO, AOAC, USP, and other microbiology methods Serve as a technical representative at tradeshows, industry meetings, and client engagements Support the commercial team on high-level client technical inquiries Teach microbiology and food safety content through Certified Groups education programs Stay current with emerging trends, new methods, and regulatory changes in microbiology Requirements M.S. or Ph.D. in Microbiology, Food Science, or a related field 8+ years (Ph.D.) or 12+ years (M.S.) of experience in microbiology testing and technical services Deep understanding of regulatory and accreditation standards including ISO 17025 Familiarity with HACCP, SSOPs, and validation of food safety plans Proven leadership experience managing a technical/scientific team Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex topics to diverse audiences Comfortable working in food and beverage processing environments (cold, hot, wet, or dry) Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%, including occasional international trips Experience with LIMS and CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite and statistical analysis tools (Minitab, R, etc.) Why Join Certified Group?
