Director of Technical Accounting

Location: Washington, DC Metro Area (Hybrid – 2 days/month in-office)

About the Opportunity

A rapidly growing technology company is seeking a Director of Technical Accounting to lead its accounting policy and complex transaction support functions. This role is ideal for a CPA with a strong foundation in U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting, and technical accounting, especially those coming from Big 4 or top 10 public accounting firms.

The Director will serve as a subject matter expert on accounting standards, lead the evaluation of new transactions, and support cross-functional teams on accounting implications. This is a high-impact role with visibility across finance, legal, and executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Lead technical accounting research and documentation for complex transactions (e.g., revenue recognition, equity, leases, acquisitions)

Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures

Support SEC reporting and disclosure requirements

Partner with legal, finance, and operations teams to assess accounting implications of contracts and strategic initiatives

Monitor changes in accounting standards and assess impact on the company

Assist with audit coordination and internal control enhancements

Provide training and guidance to accounting and finance teams

Qualifications

CPA required

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

8+ years of experience in technical accounting, ideally with public company exposure

Big 4 or top 10 public accounting firm experience strongly preferred

Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting, and internal controls

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
