Job Description

TREK Development Group is a Pittsburgh- based real estate development firm specializing in building innovative and sustainable communities. Our mission is to Create Value, Enhance Lives and Strengthen Communities. TREK Development Group recognizes the benefits of a flexible work schedule to both the employee and the employer and we offer a flexible 40 hour work week and great benefits!

At TREK, we believe the right cultural fit is just as important as possessing the skills and qualifications for the job.  Our core values: Aesthetics, Alignment, Collaboration, Compassion, Inclusiveness, Quality, Commitment, Empathy, Humility, Integrity and Responsibility are best described in our commitment to TREK’s Hospitality Covenant. The Hospitality Covenant describes our core practices that we strive to achieve each day:

  1. To treat everyone with the kindness we all want
  2. To do our own part to take care of the place where we live and work
  3. To take the time to help each other achieve our goals and aspirations

Under the direction of Vice President of Management Operations, the Director of Strategic Operations & Impact is responsible for supporting the execution of organizational priorities by advancing cross-functional initiatives, ensuring strategic follow-through, and maintaining alignment across departments. This newly created role serves as a strategic partner and direct extension of the Vice President of Management Operations, carrying forward the VP’s priorities including acting on her behalf in meetings, working sessions, and decision-making forums when she is unavailable.

This is not a traditional operational role, nor does it include direct staff management. Instead, it is focused on increasing organizational capacity, ensuring execution of high-priority initiatives, and maintaining alignment across Trek’s leadership team. The Director will work across functional areas—Human Resources, Finance, Lease-Up & Administration, and Property Operations— to identify gaps, solve problems, and implement systems that enhance coordination, clarity, and execution. This person will connect strategy with execution, solve cross-functional problems, and keep the company moving forward.

The Director will lead complex, cross-departmental projects from concept to completion, develop internal infrastructure such as policies and operating procedures, and ensure that strategic work progresses in a consistent and values-aligned manner. This individual must be highly proactive, solutions-oriented, and capable of driving progress without formal authority by building trust and fostering collaboration.

This role is ideal for a proactive, trusted, and execution-focused leader who thrives behind the scenes—turning complex, cross-departmental work into tangible results while modeling values-aligned leadership in every interaction.

Why this will be helpful.
As Trek continues to grow in scale and complexity, the need for alignment, follow-through, and execution across departments is critical. This role exists to ensure that strategic priorities don’t stall, cross-functional work doesn’t fall through the cracks, and the VP’s presence and decision-making framework remain active. Ultimately, this position is designed to strengthen internal alignment, improve implementation of strategic initiatives, and increase the overall effectiveness of the leadership team. The Director of Strategic Operations & Impact will play a critical role in ensuring that organizational goals are translated into action and that forward momentum is maintained across departments.

Essential Functions:
  • Lead execution of high-priority, cross-departmental initiatives from concept to completion with structure, urgency and follow through.
  • Identify breakdowns or inefficiencies and build practical, scalable solutions, improving clarity and coordination.
  • Create tools, templates, or systems—starting from scratch when needed.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to understand challenges and implement lasting improvements.

  • Ensure accountability, visibility, and momentum through clear systems and check-ins.
  • Monitor organizational bandwidth and step in to support progress when others are at capacity, this is a hands-on role that involves doing the work, not just managing it.
  • Coordinate closely with directors of HR, Finance, Operations, and Lease-Up/Admin to ensure cohesive execution across teams ensuring shared understanding, coordinated execution, and forward momentum across departments.
  • Translate vision and strategy into actionable work by helping departments implement priorities, processes, and decisions with consistency and clarity.
  • Draft and implement internal policies, SOPs, toolkits, guides, and frameworks that improve consistency and communication.
  • Create tools and resources that support scale, onboarding, role clarity, and leadership development.
  • Draft memos, guides, and internal communication materials that reinforce clarity, culture, and shared priorities.
  • Ensure leadership decisions and strategic direction are clearly understood by staff.
  • Maintain a centralized system for tracking progress on key initiatives and follow-ups.
  • Support planning and facilitation of leadership rhythms, including planning retreats, quarterly reviews, and strategic off-sites.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and ensure shared priorities stay on track.
  • Represent the VP in conversations or initiatives requiring coordination across multiple departments.
  • Provide informal coaching or support to teams leading collaborative or strategic efforts.
  • Act as an extension of the VP in meetings, internal discussions, or decision-making forums as needed, ensuring alignment with her vision, tone, and strategic priorities.
  • Proactively manage delegated initiatives, track follow-ups, and provide leadership presence during the VP’s absence.
  • Serve as a sounding board and execution arm, translating ideas into plans and carrying them forward with minimal oversight.
  • Use sound judgment and organizational awareness to advance decisions aligned with Trek’s mission, culture, and goals.
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned.

Education & Experience:
  • 7–10+ years of experience in operations, strategic execution, project leadership, or nonprofit/real estate management roles with increasing responsibility.
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional work and translating strategic vision into action.
  • Proven ability to act with sound judgment and represent executive leadership in complex or high-stakes situations.
  • Exceptional organization, clarity, and execution skills.
