Basic Function : The Director of Strategic Operations- Car Repair supports the Vice President of Strategic Operations by overseeing operational performance, process standardization, customer engagement, and strategic initiatives within a defined business line. This role ensures that all operational practices align with company wide standards, profitability goals, and long-term strategy. The Director serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for their business line, providing critical insight for forecasting, resource planning, customer satisfaction, and business growth.
A. Strategic Planning and Execution Translate the company's Strategic Priorities into operational plans for the Car Repair business. Partner with the VP to develop KPIs and performance metrics specific to the line of business. Ensure alignment between field operations, estimating, contracts, and overarching company strategy. B. Operational Performance and Profitability Monitor and improve operational performance within the business line using standardized dashboards and profitability metrics. Support margin improvement efforts by analyzing job costing, variances, operational gaps, and rework drivers. Track and report weekly/monthly KPIs to ensure accountability and visibility. C. Customer Engagement & Business Development Build and maintain strong customer relationships within the business line to support retention, customer satisfaction, and repeat business. Participate in customer meetings, job walks, debriefs, and service reviews to understand needs and strengthen partnerships. Identify new business opportunities aligned with the business line's capabilities, capacity, and strategic direction. Work with Business Development and Estimating teams to create accurate scopes, reduce contract risk, and improve bid success rates. Provide insight into market trends, customer expectations, and competitive positioning. D. Resource and Capacity Management Direct resource allocation, review cost structure, and manage the strategic aspects of project delivery. Oversee workforce planning and the balance of workload across teams. Strategically review equipment and resource utilization to determine needs, new opportunities, or opportunities to sell or keep. Develop skills assessments and training road maps to define current and future service offerings by location. E. Process, SOP, and Quality Standardization Implement and audit Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) within the business line. Identify inefficiencies and coordinate process improvements with IT, Accounting, Operations, and the VP of Strategic Operations. Provide clear feedback loops to ensure estimating, project setup, execution, and close-out are consistent and accurate. Support continuous improvement and LEAN training initiatives. F. Resource Capacity and Equipment Management Assist in workforce planning, project scheduling, and resource balancing across regions and crews. Monitor equipment utilization and identify needs, inefficiencies, or cost-saving opportunities. Provide input into skill assessments, training programs, and future service offerings within the business line. G. Resource Capacity and Equipment Management Serve as the SME and operational liaison to estimating, contracts, field operations, and tactical leadership. Mentor frontline leaders, reinforcing operational consistency and best practices. Participate in internal audits, project reviews, customer debriefs, and strategic initiative check-ins as assigned by the VP. Ensure operational decisions support company-wide consistency and align with the VP of Tactical Operations. 12-Month / Ongoing Goals (Focus Areass) Operations: Achieve reduced operational differences (everyone operates the same), higher productivity, and improved crew/equipment utilization. Establish predictable weekly/monthly reporting and reduce rework/delays through better cost control, bidding, and job close-out. Business Development : Establish a clear pipeline with measurable growth for scheduled work. Focus on improving customer retention, securing repeat business, and increasing the number of new recurring customers. Estimating and Contracts: Ensure standardized and accurate estimating. Work to reduce contract risk and improve alignment between the job estimate and close-out profits. The goal is a higher bid success rate. Required Skills and Experience Demonstrated expertise in operational best practices, process improvement methodologies, and strategic planning. Proven track record in driving organization-wide operational consistency and profitability improvement. Strong business acumen, including budget/P&L management, job costing, and long-term forecasting. Exceptional ability to translate executive vision into measurable, actionable plans. Experience in cross-departmental oversight and strategic coordination. Physical Demands: Frequent walking, standing, and working on uneven surfaces and in all weather conditions. Occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds; heavier loads should be managed with appropriate equipment or team support. Extended work hours as required by operational needs and emergency response obligations.
