Reports to: Founder/CEO
Supervises: Social Media Manager and external content partners (to be recruited)
Position Overview
Director of Social Media (DSM) will lead the upgrade of the Foundation’s social media content and its expansion to new platforms. DSM will oversee digital storytelling, ensuring that the foundation’s mission, values, and impact resonate with audiences across multiple SM platforms.
Serving as both creative and editorial lead, this individual will manage a small team to produce compelling, brand-consistent, and mission-aligned content. The role requires balancing editorial excellence and exceptional creativity with real-time responsiveness, using digital platforms to advance the foundation’s global mission and reputation, inform about its philanthropic work and engage its target audiences to meet agreed-to metrics.
Key Responsibilities Content Strategy & Editorial Leadership Execute a recently approved social media content strategy
Develop and manage the editorial calendar, integrating key campaigns, timely events, and thought leadership pieces.
Ensure messaging reflects Foundation’s values, cultural awareness, and compelling storytelling.
Content Creation & Curation Lead the creation of engaging multimedia content (video, graphics, written posts, live streams) for diverse audiences.
Write, edit and refine copy to maintain exceptional editorial quality, tone, and consistency.
Source and curate content from grantees, community partners, and global initiatives.
Monitor “breaking news,” trends, industry developments, and competitor activity to inform content strategy.
Community Engagement & Amplification Foster meaningful engagement with target communities, philanthropic partners, and wider audiences.
Build digital communities that amplify the foundation’s mission, thought leadership, and grantmaking impact.
Cultivate relationships with influencers, organizational partners, and media allies.
Implement paid campaigns as needed to increase reach and deepen engagement
Analytics & Continuous Improvement Establish KPIs and evaluate performance across platforms.
Translate analytics into actionable insights to optimize content and engagement.
Stay ahead of digital trends and platform innovations relevant to philanthropy.
Team Leadership & Collaboration Manage a small social media team, including to-be-recruited freelance creatives and partner agencies.
Collaborate with colleagues across communications and programs to ensure integrated messaging.
Partner with leadership team members to ensure brand consistency and adherence to social media strategy and guidelines
Champion digital best practices across the organization.
Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a top tier university.
7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in social media strategy, digital communications, and/or editorial leadership.
Demonstrated success building and growing digital communities.
Superior writing and editing skills
Expertise in choosing and managing cross-platform campaigns (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, X/Twitter, Threads).
Familiarity with analytics and publishing tools (Sprout Social, Hootsuite, native platform analytics, Google Analytics).
Experience developing and implementing promotional campaigns
Experience overseeing digital community management
Knowledge of SEO, digital advertising, and emerging social trends.
Experience managing vendors.
