Overview Director of Secondary Staffing at YES Prep Public Schools. Reports to: Managing Director of Talent. Position type: 12-month. Start date: Immediate. Compensation: $89,649 - $109,820, Home Office Grade 9.

The Opportunity YES Prep needs a dynamic Director of Secondary Staffing with a robust set of experiences to make our mission a reality. You will lead the design, implementation, and execution of YES Prep’s secondary staffing strategy to ensure timely hiring, strategic alignment, and exceptional support for school leaders. This role provides strategic leadership in staffing operations, oversees vacancy management and internal transfers, partners with campus and central teams on forecasting and hiring decisions, and ensures alignment with our mission to empower every student to succeed.
The Role Responsibilities include, among others:
Forecasting staffing needs and developing key strategies to ensure that 100% of secondary instructional staff are hired and approved to start by June 30.
Collaborating with the Director of Recruitment and Selection to ensure effective recruitment strategies reach application and hiring goals.
Creating accountability structures to progress monitor team goals and adjust or implement changes when goals are at risk.
Collaborating with Finance and Schools teams to create org-level staffing models, project vacancies, create overhire and internal transfer policies, and determine role elimination processes.
Collaborating with the Managing Director of Talent to create trainings and resources for Principals and other key stakeholders.
Other expectations include ensuring that 90% of all Principals agree or strongly agree that our Business Partners understand the unique needs of their schools, analyze talent data to inform staff decisions, and support staffing practices that enhance student learning.
Providing guidance on talent issues including employee relations, performance management, and onboarding.
Coaching and developing Business Partners, setting clear expectations, and creating training opportunities.
Providing team leadership by setting vision and direction, determining priorities, and creating structures.
Maintaining strong relationships with Principals and stakeholders to support sourcing, assignment, induction, retention, development, and performance of candidates for school-based roles.
Reviewing student achievement data to ensure human capital needs align with outcomes.
Conducting data reviews with the Talent leadership team to address staffing needs and propose solutions.
Increasing The Effectiveness Of Teachers In Schools
Ensuring at least 3 quality candidates for every vacancy.
Maintaining 85% retention of teachers with 90% retention of Level III and IV teachers.
Starting growth plans prior to Spring Break for issues arising before that date.
Ensuring 100% of teachers on growth plans improve to effective ratings or exit the system by year end.
Providing principals with support for short and long-term coverage challenges.
Ensuring 95% of teachers hired persist beyond 90 days on staff.
Determining differentiated support for high-need campuses.
Managing the team to ensure performance standards are met in mid-year and end-of-year reviews, and leading Business Partners and Recruiters to achieve ambitious goals with accountability and development.
Aligning with Leadership Competencies and maintaining core value competencies.

The Must Haves Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university
At least 3-5 years in human resources, talent acquisition, or talent recruitment (equivalent experience considered for school staff hiring, coaching, and development)
At least 2 years of management experience
Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity under pressure
Risk-tolerant, compliant thinker who can drive HR innovation
Willingness to work outside normal hours and on weekends

Openness to giving and receiving frequent feedback
Ability to stay emotionally controlled under stress

The Nice To Haves Master’s degree
SHRM or PHR Certification
Knowledge of employment law, especially in Texas
