Director of Project Controls, Mission Critical Join to apply for the Director of Project Controls, Mission Critical role at Ryan Companies US, Inc. Ryan Companies is seeking a Director of Project Controls to join our rapidly growing Mission Critical Data Center construction team in Minnesota. This individual will be responsible for developing, documenting, and deploying standardized project and field operations systems tailored to hyperscale and mission-critical clients. The ideal candidate combines deep construction operations knowledge with strong systems thinking and change management skills. This strategic role focuses on establishing operational excellence, advancing digital tools, and enabling scalable, consistent delivery across multiple sites. Your impact will contribute to high-performance execution and building a trusted delivery platform for sophisticated clients. The role supports and enhances Mission Critical’s project performance tools, ensuring real-time reporting for internal teams and clients. It involves collaboration with internal teams—construction, leadership, shared services, and Operational Excellence (OpEx)—and external tech partners to improve performance and processes. The position also acts as a thought leader, optimizing tools and reporting practices. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain SOPs for project management, field execution, and reporting workflows, with a focus on Smartsheet integrations. Train, adopt, and embed best practices across preconstruction, client, and field teams. Provide client-facing progress reports and insights against benchmarks. Identify and mitigate risks in MC construction operations. Drive the selection, customization, and deployment of technology tools, including scheduling, cost controls, and dashboards. Collaborate with vendors to adapt tools for real-time reporting and change management. Lead the rollout of new systems and tools through change management programs. Develop and deliver training, user guides, and onboarding sessions. Establish ongoing support for troubleshooting and continuous improvement. Coordinate with OpEx to adapt SOPs for non-MC operations. Manage project dashboards for cost, schedule, productivity, and safety metrics. Conduct audits and retrospectives to ensure standards are met. Implement lessons learned to improve processes. Partner with leadership for project health reviews and updates. Build and lead a centralized Project Controls team supporting multiple client programs. Recruit, onboard, and mentor team members. Define workflows, expectations, and resource allocation based on project needs. Foster a culture of excellence, data accuracy, and responsiveness. Act as escalation point for project controls issues. Qualifications 7+ years of proficiency in Procore, SmartSheet, and other project management tools. Strong knowledge of data center or mission-critical environments. Deep understanding of construction methods, scheduling, cost control, and design management. Effective at training and presenting to diverse audiences. Experience managing and leading teams to achieve strategic goals. Proven problem-solving skills and proactive communication. Ability to evaluate priorities and execute independently. Natural leadership qualities and team development skills. Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field. Experience supporting hyperscale clients (AWS, Google, Meta, Microsoft). Lean/IPD knowledge or PMP certification preferred. Willingness to travel for site visits and training. Additional Information Position requires verification of employment eligibility in the U.S. The salary range is $130,000 to $194,000, with potential additional compensation such as bonuses or incentives.
