Valor Front has been retained by a leading and rapidly growing data center development company to identify an exceptional procurement leader for this critical hire.
The Opportunity Our client is seeking a Director of Procurement to establish and lead procurement excellence across their expanding data center portfolio. This role offers the unique opportunity to build procurement standards, processes, and teams from the ground up while managing hundreds of millions in CapEx spend.
You'll be responsible for the full procurement lifecycle—from vendor qualification and RFP management to contract negotiation, budget oversight, and warranty close-out. This position reports directly to the Chief Data Center Officer and will play a pivotal role in scaling the organization's development capabilities across multiple geographies.
What You'll Do
Strategic Leadership Develop and implement procurement strategies that optimize cost savings and operational efficiency Build and maintain a Book of Values and costing database to enable accurate project forecasting Establish performance metrics and best practices for procurement teams Research, qualify, and evaluate vendors based on capability, price, and reliability
Operational Excellence Oversee procurement of all major equipment Manage RFP processes, bid leveling, and contract awards Create and manage project budgets including all hard and soft costs Partner with design stakeholders, contractors, and internal teams (FP&A, Operations, Engineering) Handle contract negotiation, purchase orders, change orders, and project close-out
Team Development Build a high-performing procurement team as the business scales Drive accountability and ensure strict adherence to procurement processes Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement
What You Bring
Required Experience 10+ years in construction procurement, ideally with mission-critical or technical manufacturing focus Proven track record managing procurement spend in the hundreds of millions Deep knowledge of construction frameworks: drawings, specifications, AIA contracts Experience with bid leveling, vendor qualification, and contract negotiation Proficiency in MS Project, MS Office Suite, Procore, and procurement software
Essential Capabilities Strong understanding of supply chain management principles Ability to build and maintain cost tracking databases Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills Strategic thinking combined with procedural rigor Experience with budget management and financial reporting
Ideal Background General Contractor procurement or technical manufacturing procurement (experience with heavy fabricators, complex engineering teams, and specification-based purchasing)
The Details Location: Austin, Texas (in-office position) Compensation: Competitive base salary plus bonus Timeline: Our client is looking to hire within 45-60 days Reports To: Chief Data Center Officer
