Team JAS is looking for a Director of PMA Engineering to lead the design, development, certification, and continuous improvement of aircraft components at Team JAS. This key leadership role requires a strong background in aerospace or mechanical engineering and deep expertise in FAA regulations, especially FAR Part 21 and PMA processes.

About The Position: The Director of PMA Engineering is responsible for leading all engineering functions related to the design, development, certification, and continuous improvement of aircraft components, ensuring regulatory compliance with the FAA and other aviation authorities. As the FAA Part 21 Accountable Manager, this leader oversees all activities under the scope of FAA Production Approval, including the integrity of PMA processes and documentation, while driving quality and operational excellence. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience managing engineering teams and complex projects from concept through certification, combined with exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills to foster collaboration and innovation across Team JAS.
Primary Responsibilities: Provide strategic leadership by developing, communicating, and executing the engineering department's vision, mission, and strategic plans in alignment with the company's goals and objectives. Ensure all developed and manufactured products comply with FAA and other aviation authority regulations by overseeing the PMA application and certification process, including direct coordination with the FAA and relevant certification bodies. Ensure robust engineering documentation, configuration management, and change control processes. Develop and implement engineering policies, procedures, and best practices. Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent, mentor and coach team members. Manage engineering department budgets, resource allocation, and capital planning. Identify, evaluate, and manage risks throughout the product development and certification lifecycle, implementing effective mitigation strategies to ensure compliance, safety, and timely delivery. Lead cross-functional engineering projects from concept through certification, production, and post-delivery support, ensuring alignment with customer requirements, regulatory standards, and business objectives. Serve as the primary liaison with the FAA and other regulatory bodies during audits, inspections, and certification activities. Oversee Project Engineers to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget. Collaborate closely with Quality, MRO, Supply Chain, Sales, and suppliers to support product performance, compliance, and customer satisfaction. Champion continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and product quality. Support business development by providing technical expertise during customer engagements, proposals, and product planning. Drive digital transformation by integrating modern engineering tools and systems (e.g., CAD, PDM, ERP) to streamline workflows. Stay informed on industry trends, technological advancements, and evolving regulatory requirements to maintain innovation and compliace. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering Extensive experience in aircraft parts development, certification, and engineering leadership within the aviation industry. In-depth knowledge of FAA regulations, including FAR Part 21 and PMA procedures. Proven experience managing engineering teams and leading cross-functional projects from concept through certification and production. Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to motivate, mentor, and develop high-performing technical teams. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across departments, engage with regulatory authorities, and convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders. Project management experience with demonstrated budgeting and resource planning capabilities. Track record of implementing process improvements and driving operational excellence. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in aviation manufacturing, quality assurance, or production environments (quality experience strongly preferred). Prior designation or hands-on experience as a Part 21 Accountable Manager or similar regulatory compliance leadership role. Proficiency with engineering systems and digital tools (e.g. Solidworks, PDM, Quantum Control preferred). Familiarity with international aviation regulations (e.g., EASA, CAAC, TCCA) and multi-certification environments. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
