Job Description
Riceland Foods is looking for a Director of Oil Operations. The Stuttgart Soy Division Director of Oil Operations is responsible for the operation of the oil processing, packaging, and shipping areas which includes the following: Refinery, Bleaching, Rice Bran Oil Winterization, Deodorization, Bulk Oil Shipping, Packaging, and Warehouse Shipping. The responsibility of the position includes directing all operating units of the plant in order to produce edible oil products of specified quality, at lowest cost, in line with established production plans, safety, food safety requirements, regulations, customer service requirements, and profit objectives.
Job Duties
The following outline the major responsibilities for the SSD Director Of Oil Operations. This list is not all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.
1.Maintain and recommend organizational elements, responsibility, and authority to conduct the plant’s operations effectively. Determine when operating conditions require revisions of the plant’s basic organizational structure and apply accepted procedures to accomplish those revisions.
2.Hire, or delegate the hiring of personnel for all hourly and entry level salaried positions for areas of responsibility. Select personnel, or approve the selection of personnel to fill higher salaried positions. Maintain and track area crewing/staffing guides.
3.Review and approve promotions, demotions, transfers, terminations, and other employee status changes.
4.Maintain effective employee morale and safety programs.
5.Provide for proper training and communications throughout the plant.
6.Strive to reduce operating costs and improve efficiency. Control inventory levels consistent with market requirements while minimizing capital investment as much as possible.
7.Produce safe, quality products within limits of Riceland product specifications at best economic position.
8.Maintain desired standards of quality for all products produced in the plant and assure that adequate quality control programs are established and applied.
9.Keep informed of customer requirements. Keep informed of process improvements and developments within the edible oil processing industry. Plan other operations to meet customer requirements, marketing trends, and division production programs.
10. Review the annual operating budget recommendations for all areas of responsibility and make any necessary adjustments.
11. Prepare and submit a capital budget plan for areas of responsibility.
12.Assure that maintenance and general upkeep of plant property is handled properly.
13.Responsible for leading by example workplace safety for employees and areas of responsibility.
14.Responsible for staying current and informed of all regulatory requirements for safety and informing/update division management of such. Use of external resources, training providers, consultants, news media outlets or others is required.
15.Responsible for communication and work effectively with Sales, Engineering, Maintenance, Automation, Safety, Human Resources, Sanitation, Quality Assurance and other internal resources to manage operations.
Operational Budget Responsibility :>$17,000,000 Annual Dollars
Facilities Assets Responsibility :>$ 30,000,000 Dollars
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and direction of ~12 salaried employees and ~60 hourly employees. Directly supervises employees in Oil Processing Areas and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or equivalent from two year college or technical school: and 4 years of related experience and/or training: or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of two years of management or direct supervisory experience is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret spread sheets, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Demonstrated ability to write business plans, reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Basic mathematical skills is required. Ability to calculate figures, proportions, percentages and variances preferred. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and statistics also preferred.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety or technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Driver’s License
INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS
Frequent contact with RFI employees, department managers, supervisors and all other employees and departments as needed. Regular contact with RITO partnership team members.
EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS
Frequent contact with vendors. Occasional contact with general public, farmer members and customers. Occasional contact with industry trade assocations.
USE OF EQUIPMENT AND/OR COMPUTERS
Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer, various associated software programs and standard office equipment. Must be proficient in electronic communication, use of MS Office and other common business applications. Must be able to use web based applications and process insurance related claims/events. Use of Riceland ERP system is required.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to utilize both internal and external resources to obtain information and data necessary to carry out routine assignments and special projects. Must have ability to establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with management and staff.

The noise level in the work environment is typical of a manufacturing environment with frequent regular exposure to moderate to loud noises associated with packaging, oil processing, warehousing, shipping, and maintenance activities.
WORK SCHEDULES
The incumbent is required to maintain regular and posted office hours that coincide with peers and supervisors. Typically this is 7am – 4pm, Monday – Friday. Work after hours and including weekends will be required in the normal course of business to address incidents, employee training, production demands and unplanned downtimes, etc..
Attendance and participation at regularly scheduled meetings and other events are a required part of the job. Every effort should be made to eliminate other work and/or personal conflicts with these times and dates.
The incumbent is responsible for notifying their superivor(s) of all significant events or deviations from their normal schedule in accordance with SSD’s Attendance Policy.
