Director of Music Position Available
The Director of Music is the primary staff person supporting music as a central element of worship experiences as well as the church ministry as a whole. Working with ensembles, small groups, and individuals this person will guide, recruit, and encourage a variety of musical offerings in support of the proclamation of the Gospel. This person will play a vital role in creating a new model of music programming.
Responsibilities:
Plan, rehearse, and support all musical offerings throughout the year. Be present as requested at worship services, with the exception of vacation or sick time.
Direct Vocal and Bell choirs for monthly/seasonal offerings.
Coordinate rehearsal schedules as needed.
Work with Pastor and Worship Design Team to plan music for each season of the church calendar.
Work with Pastor and Worship Design Team to diversify musical styles and opportunities.
Support seasonal children’s music programs.
Encourage and recruit church/community members to participate in musical offerings.
Coordinate with other staff and ministries for facility use and programming.
Support the church’s commitment to fully inclusive programming.
Attend Staff/Session meetings as requested.
Requested time off requires 2 weeks due notice to the Head of Staff.
Other duties as required.
Schedule:
Full year position salaried for 1/3 time (12 hours/week). Ensembles/soloists perform during the second of two services on Sunday mornings during the program year (September-May). A single service is offered during the summer. Ensemble choirs participate during the program year. Soloists and non-choir groups offer music throughout the year. Seasonal and special services are offered as needed. Rehearsals and staff meetings as required. Worship Design Team meeting once a month.
Qualifications:
Experience with directing vocal ensembles.
Familiarity with a variety of musical styles and pieces appropriate for worship.
Highly motivated to partner with pastor and other leaders in creating a new program.
Excellent communication skills, both in-person and electronic.
Administratively organized.
Person of active Christian faith practice.
Flexibility and willingness to serve on a team.
Academic degree in music preferred.
Accountability: This position is accountable to the Head of Staff (Pastor) and Session.
Compensation and Benefits: $20,000/year
Salary commensurate with experience
1 week paid vacation
