Director of Mission Integration & Spiritual Care – Franciscan Care Center
Job Summary The Director of Mission Integration & Spiritual Care leads efforts to ensure the Mission is present in the daily life and culture of the campus. Working closely with the Executive Director and Director of Nursing, the Director helps shape a workplace culture rooted in the Core Values of compassion, inclusion, integrity, excellence, and collaboration—expressed through a spiritual environment that reflects our Franciscan heritage and Catholic identity.
This role is also responsible for designing and delivering high-quality spiritual care to residents across all levels of care.

Essential Responsibilities
Leads Mission Integration efforts within the senior living setting, with a focus on advancing strategic goals.
Acts as the subject matter expert on Mission, core values, and heritage, working with other campus leaders to apply these principles in daily operations and decision-making.
Builds a culture where employees feel connected to the Mission and take pride in their work. Supports efforts to improve employee wellness, engagement, and retention.
Fosters workplace spirituality by leading prayers and reflections for managers and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Oversees Mission formation for managers and employees, including orientation and ongoing programs.
Ensures awareness and adherence to the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services . Chairs the Ethics Committee and ensures residents and families have access to ethics consults.
Integrates spiritual care into the full continuum of resident services, with special attention to end-of-life care. Participates in care conferences and provides timely spiritual assessments.
Ensures all residents have access to appropriate religious services. Oversees the chapel, recruits and trains volunteers, and maintains relationships with local clergy and faith communities.
Builds connections with area faith communities and care organizations.
Advocates for individuals who are poor or otherwise disadvantaged.
Meets all educational and in-service requirements set by CHI Living Communities and regulatory agencies:
Attends all required in-service sessions
Follows all policies and procedures
Completes annual online training by the deadline
Attends regular staff meetings
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, the Director is expected to perform all duties—both essential and non-essential—in a way that reflects the values and mission of CHI Living Communities. This role will be evaluated based on that alignment. All employees must follow campus and department safety guidelines and policies. CHI Living Communities reserves the right to adjust the duties and qualifications of this role as needed.
Job Requirements
Education: A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred in theology, pastoral ministry, or a healthcare-related field. Candidates should have a strong understanding of healthcare operations, Catholic health ethics, and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services (ERDs) . The role also requires familiarity with diverse spiritual traditions, the ability to work within the framework of the Catholic Church, and alignment with the values of CommonSpirit Health. Strong preference will be given to practicing Catholics; however, those who support the Catholic tradition and have experience in Catholic healthcare may be considered.
Experience: Experience working with older adults is required, ideally in a healthcare environment. Candidates should have at least two years of management experience, preferably in healthcare, and at least two units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent training, with the intention of pursuing Board Certification as a Chaplain. A collaborative mindset, ecumenical spirit, and a good sense of humor are highly valued.
