Overview
The following information aims to provide potential candidates with a better understanding of the requirements for this role. The Colorado Community College System (CCCS) is hiring a Director of Learning Design to join our Learning Resources department. The role provides leadership and supervision of the Learning Design team, collaborating with CCCS faculty, instructors, colleges, the library and OER services team, and other stakeholders to create engaging online courses and programs that align with quality standards, pedagogical best practices, educational technologies, and accessibility guidelines.
Responsibilities
Provide systemwide leadership for developing and enhancing online teaching and learning through the identification, evaluation, adoption, and integration of effective course design, learning objects, and pedagogical strategies.
Collaborate with stakeholders across CCCS to establish and evolve the collaborative learning design model.
Implement a continuous improvement culture using course survey data, Quality Matters feedback, and other input sources.
Lead design elements including customizable course shells, syllabi, competency analyses, course outlines, learning objects, assignments, assessments, and rubrics for online and rural college consortium shells.
Supervise three Learning Designers and three Senior Learning Designers.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in instructional design, learning design, curriculum and instruction, educational technology, instructional systems, education, or a closely related field by the time of hire.
At least three years of work experience in instructional or learning design.
Leadership experience in instructional or learning design or a similar field.
Experience developing instructional materials for a learning management system (e.g., Desire2Learn).

Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and accessibility standards, and familiarity with assistive technologies used in course design and delivery.
Familiarity with Open Educational Resources (OER) and copyright laws.
Understanding of the higher education environment and working with faculty or subject matter experts.
Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking.
Positive attitude and professional drive.
Work Location/Travel
This position is located at 9026 E. Severn Place, Denver, CO 80230.
Work may require some evenings and weekends and occasional overnight travel to conferences and CCCS colleges.
Alternative work arrangements, including flexible schedules and remote work, may be available. All work must be completed in the state of Colorado.
