The Director Of K-12 Education is a strategic leader and market sector expert responsible for driving growth and profitability by providing direction for business development, client relationship management, and team development across the sector. This role will provide executive leadership and oversight for all opportunities and client relations within the sector across the company, while ensuring alignment to Knutson's values, culture and long-term strategic goals.
This role will deliver The Knutson Experience (TKE) to all clients, employees, and partners, making everyone Knutson works with feel Assured, Inspired, and Appreciated.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety
- Responsible for leading and modeling Knutson's Zero Incident Safety Culture.
- Ensure project leaders embrace, execute, and continuously improve upon safety procedures across all projects.
Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute the strategic plan for the sector in alignment with overall company vision and objectives to promote long-term growth.
- Identify emerging trends, risks, and opportunities and position Knutson as a thought leader with expertise in the sector.
- Set the overall strategy, business plan, and go-to-market strategies to achieve revenue, margin, and growth targets for the sector.
- Enact business strategies that grow market share and advance Knutson's visibility in the marketplace.
- Identify key investments and new or improved services that will drive growth and market share.
- Identify and grow strategic partnership opportunities that allow Knutson to enter and grow in the marketplace.
K-12 Education Business Development and Growth
- Lead sector-focused business development initiatives, including go/no-go decisions and pursuit strategies.
- Maintain strong relationships with key clients, partners, industry stakeholders, and community leaders leading to continued partnerships.
- Identify and cultivate new relationships with transformative clients to position Knutson for new opportunities across the sector, in partnership with business development, preconstruction, marketing and other collaborative teams.
- Oversee the development of proposals, presentations, and interviews to secure new projects.
- Establish and evolve optimal strategies to win work.
- Identify external drivers influencing the marketplace.
- Identify, analyze and act upon strategic K-12 Education market intelligence to understand and anticipate opportunities that align with Knutson's strategic capabilities.
- Position Knutson as a trusted and differentiated brand of choice in the K-12 Education marketplace.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Mentor and grow future leaders, support workforce development and succession planning.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Effectively translate, communicate and motivate team members to understand and deliver strategic outcomes.
- Participate in the growth of Knutson's team through career fairs, candidate interviews, and networking events.
- Influence and collaborate with employees across various departments to achieve strategic goals.
- Proven knowledge and leadership in P&L management, business development, strategic planning, and team development.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Be the primary executive point of contact for major clients within the sector.
- Drive client satisfaction, repeat business, and long-term partnership opportunities.
- Gather and act upon client and partnership feedback to continuously improve relationships.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and forums.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Visionary leadership with a hands-on, client-focused approach.
- Demonstrated success in building and scaling within the K-12 Education sector.
- Deep understanding of preconstruction, design-build, and delivery models.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and ethical business practices.
- Consistently act in alignment with Knutson's values and culture.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong financial acumen.
- Proven success in business development.
- Strong network and proven reputation in the K-12 Education sector.
- Proficiency in CRM tools, and business intelligence platforms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel to other offices, project sites, client offices, and other locations on a regular and reasonable basis to achieve sector business objectives, which will sometimes include overnight trips.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architectural, Engineering, Business, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in the construction or design industry, with significant experience and knowledge in the sector.
