We are currently seeking a strategic and experienced *Director of Indirect Lending* to lead and evolve our credit operations. This is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned credit leader to drive impactful change, support a high-performing team, and contribute directly to the long-term success and growth of our lending division.
*Position Summary*
The *Director of Indirect Lending* is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, strategy, and performance of the underwriting team responsible for indirect auto lending. This role is accountable for establishing and enforcing underwriting policies, optimizing workflows, supporting cross-departmental collaboration, and ensuring a culture of compliance, efficiency, and service excellence.
This position requires a strong background in credit and underwriting, particularly in the auto finance industry, along with demonstrated experience leading and developing teams. The ideal candidate will be both a strategic thinker and a hands-on leader capable of improving operational performance and aligning departmental goals with broader business objectives.
*Key Responsibilities*
*Leadership & Team Development*
* Provide leadership, mentorship, and daily management for a team of underwriters and credit analysts.
* Develop and implement employee onboarding, training, continuing education, and career development plans.
* Conduct regular performance reviews, set goals, and initiate coaching and corrective action when necessary.
*Credit Decisioning & Underwriting Oversight*
* Oversee the full lifecycle of loan applications and credit decisioning processes.
* Ensure underwriting decisions are completed in a timely, accurate, and policy-compliant manner.
* Monitor daily credit application queues and assist in escalated or complex loan scenarios.
*Operational Strategy & Continuous Improvement*
* Collaborate with senior leadership to establish departmental goals, KPIs, and service level expectations.
* Identify and implement process improvements that enhance loan quality, operational efficiency, and team productivity.
* Analyze key metrics and adjust workflows, policies, or staffing needs accordingly.
* Ability to learn and manage all systems and integrations within the loan origination platform, including interfacing with 50+ software tools such as Econ Tracking, RouteOne, Document Tracking, eVault, Dealertrack, and other integrated operational systems
*Policy, Compliance & Cross-Functional Collaboration*
* Maintain and enforce underwriting guidelines in accordance with company policies and regulatory standards.
* Work cross-functionally with other departments, including Funding, Servicing, and Compliance, to streamline operations and improve service delivery.
* Participate in company-wide initiatives, including technology upgrades and special projects.
*Market Intelligence & Risk Management*
* Stay current with industry trends, market pricing, and competitor offerings.
* Provide insights and recommendations to adjust underwriting criteria or lending practices based on market conditions.
*Qualifications & Requirements*
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in indirect auto lending, with a strong background in underwriting and credit decisioning.
* At least 3 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a lending or financial services environment.
* Strong understanding of indirect auto finance operations, compliance regulations, and underwriting best practices.
* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
* Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
* Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong customer service orientation.
* Proficiency with loan origination systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
* Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience accepted.
