MountainTrue is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Finance to join our team. The Director of Finance will be responsible for the financial health of our organization, providing financial guidance and support to senior leadership. This role requires a strong understanding of financial principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and concisely.
The ideal candidate for this role will have at least 3 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably with a non-profit organization.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting:
Oversee all financial aspects of MountainTrues operations
Manage and execute month-end close processes, ensuring accurate financial statements and reconciliations.
Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with U.S. regulations.
Working in conjunction with an external bookkeeping firm, oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions to ensure timely payments and collections.
Implement and enforce credit policies to minimize financial risk.
Work closely with customers and vendors to maintain strong financial relationships.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Working in conjunction with the Executive Director, develop and implement organization-wide financial strategies.
Manage and oversee the annual budget process, including preparation, monitoring, and analysis.
Operational Support:
Working in conjunction with an external Human Resources firm, approve payroll/s for the organization, maintain awareness of payroll processing and ensure compliance with U.S. labor laws.
Work closely with all levels of the organization to align financial strategies with operational goals.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
Experience:
Three to five years of progressive experience in financial management (leadership or supervisory role) at organizations with budgets exceeding $4M.
One to three years of experience in a non-profit financial management role
A combination of experience and education may be considered.
Skills:
Superior leadership and team-building skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to disseminate complex financial information in simple and straight-forward terms
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Deep knowledge of financial accounting principles and practices
Proficiency in financial software, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and all other relevant technical platforms
Accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet all deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
One to three years of experience administering both restricted and non-restricted grants
Location and Travel
This position is a hybrid remote position with multiple, weekly, in-person meetings, frequent virtual meetings, and phone calls. This position may require travel and face time within the communities throughout Western North Carolina and potentially locations outside of the area depending on the needs of the business. Travel costs are covered by the organization.
Mental and Physical Demands
Work is performed in a traditional office setting with controlled temperatures and occasional and low to moderate noise levels.
Occasional visits to the field may be required where the environment is hazardous (uneven ground, in or on water, etc.)
Work requires prolonged sitting at a desk and using a computer.
Ability to climb stairs as needed.
May require occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. and infrequently up to 25 lbs.

Follow company MountainTrues safety protocols and procedures.
Report occupational injuries, illnesses, or near misses immediately.
Participate in required safety training and accident investigations as needed.
Identify and immediately report unsafe conditions to the appropriate staff member.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range is $70,000 to $76,648, depending upon experience.
The benefits package includes 20 vacation days per year, 12 holidays, sick leave, a paid 2-month sabbatical after five years, health, dental and vision insurances, and a simple IRA with an employer contribution of up to 3%.
