*Overview*
The Director of Finance and Accounting is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the organization's financial performance, reporting, and operations, while also managing and executing technical accounting and controllership functions to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This position combines strategic financial leadership with hands-on technical expertise typically associated with a Controller, driving financial performance and supporting organizational goals.
*Key Responsibilities*
*Financial Leadership*
* Collaborate with CEO and senior leadership to design the financial plan to execute short and long-term business objectives.
* Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes to support growth and profitability across all business segments and departments.
* Provide financial insights and recommendations to the CEO and senior leadership to enhance financial performance and strategic decision-making.
* Enhance the utilization of cash in the areas of margin and pricing; inventory; payables; and A/R.
* Manage relationships with investors, banks, auditors, and other external stakeholders.
* Identify and mitigate financial risks, ensuring robust internal controls and compliance with regulations.
*Accounting and Controllership*
* Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP/IFRS.
* Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end/year-end closings.
* Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including preparation and filing of tax returns.
* Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash flow management processes.
* Implement and maintain financial systems and utilize the power of software to streamline accounting operations and reporting and increase productivity.
* Maintain and update accounting policies and procedures to reflect current standards and best practices.
*Technical Responsibilities*
* Lead, manage, and enhance A/R and Payables.
* Lead the design and implementation of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
* Oversee audits, both internal and external, coordinating with auditors to ensure compliance and accuracy.
* Manage complex accounting issues, such as revenue recognition, lease accounting, and stock-based compensation.
* Analyze and interpret financial data to produce detailed reports for management and stakeholders
* Ensure accurate fixed asset management, including depreciation schedules and capital expenditure tracking.
* Monitor and report on key financial metrics, ensuring data integrity across all financial systems.
*Leadership and Team Management*
* Lead, mentor, and develop a team of finance and accounting professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, operations, HR, and IT, to align financial objectives with business processes.
* Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of financial operations.
*Qualifications*
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
* 10+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
* Strong technical accounting expertise, including deep knowledge of GAAP, tax regulations, and financial reporting.
* Proven experience in controllership functions, including general ledger management, financial close processes, and audit coordination.
* Proficiency with financial software and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, or similar).
* Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
* Excellent communication and leadership abilities, with a track record of managing high-performing teams.
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
*Preferred Skills*
* Experience in distribution or manufacturing.
* Knowledge of international accounting standards and multi-entity financial management.
* Familiarity with financial modeling, data analytics, and advanced Excel skills.
* Strategic and operations mindset with a hands-on approach to technical accounting challenges.
*Work Environment*
* Full-time position, typically office-based with potential for hybrid work arrangements.
* May require occasional travel for meetings with stakeholders, auditors, or company locations.
