Overview Director of Engineering position with a 70 year old manufacturer of Electro-Mechanical devices/machines in the Buffalo, NY area. Open due to a promotion. We need a critical thinker who has a track record of developing engineers, is a strong leader, thinks on their feet, well organized and on top of processes. Position Purpose: Provides strategic and operational leadership for all engineering activities. Principal Responsibilities Defines the engineering department vision and works with cross functional leadership to align engineering initiatives with business objectives. Direct engineering activities in the design of new products, modification of existing designs, improvement of production techniques, and development of testing procedures. Manages and develops engineering staff to reach their full potential. Define and drive the engineering vision, strategy, and execution in alignment with company goals. Oversee manufacturing process design and improvements to increase efficiency, throughput, and quality. Oversee product design, prototyping, testing, and transition to full-scale production. Recruit, train, and retain top engineering and technical talent. Lead the standardization and refinement of engineering processes for scalability and efficiency. Provide engineering insight and guidance to support other departments in accomplishing their business goals. Review and approve Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) to ensure proper evaluation, documentation, and implementation across design, production, and quality functions. Provide technical guidance and communicate project status, risks, and outcomes to executive leadership. Interface with program customers for important schedule, quality or contractual discussions. Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. 10+ years in engineering management in an electro-mechanical device/machine manufacturer. Deep understanding of engineering principles, new design methods, production processes, and production equipment. Proven skill in building, leading, and motivating multidisciplinary engineering teams. Ability to partner effectively with Operations, Quality, Sales, and other business units. Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills for communicating technical information to various audiences. Strong capability in reviewing, approving, and implementing ECNs with accuracy and speed. Ability to plan, prioritize, and deliver multiple complex engineering projects on time and within budget. Uses metrics, analysis, and KPIs to guide engineering and operational decisions. Skilled in conflict management and employee development. Ability to understand mechanical or electrical assembly drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams. Ability to properly prioritize tasks and work under pressure. Eligibility : ONLY interested in candidates currently living in the Buffalo/Rochester, NY area.
