The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is seeking a full-time Director of Engagement and Annual Giving to lead the strategy, planning, and implementation of OMSI's donor engagement and stewardship initiatives, annual fund campaigns, and OMSI's signature gala. This includes managing communications and activities that support donor cultivation, solicitation, and long-term engagement. The Director directs and implements a comprehensive calendar of events, communications, and other high-impact donor engagement opportunities designed to strengthen relationships and inspire philanthropic support. The role manages stewardship activities-including the annual report, gift acknowledgments, and other recurring or customized donor touches-by collaborating across departments to ensure donors experience meaningful, mission-aligned interactions with OMSI. The Director also leads all annual fund efforts, including the year-end appeal, online giving campaigns, and other initiatives to attract new donors, and retain and upgrade existing supporters, with the goal of meeting or exceeding annual operating revenue targets and expanding the donor pipeline. In collaboration with the Vice President of Development and Development leadership, the Director works to set the strategic direction, metrics, and revenue goals of the organization; build the philanthropic pipeline to meet and exceed goals in unrestricted and restricted giving; and create the systems and processes necessary to achieve sustainable, year-over-year growth in both revenue and donor participation. The Director manages one staff member and the volunteers who support the gala, donor engagement, stewardship, and annual fund activities.
Qualified candidates will have, but not limited to: Academic degree that demonstrates project management and communication knowledge, skills, and abilities 5 years of cumulative experience with increasing responsibility: Demonstrated donor relations and/or engagement/stewardship activity experience; Developed project management or coordination experience; Applicable marketing and communications skills-experience with direct mail campaigns, database management, customer relations, and strong writing and verbal skills; Demonstrated experience working with the public, in both formal and informal settings; Demonstrated experience in coordinating, leading, and delivering small and large events; Experience working effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and talents in professional work environments, with an emphasis on collaborative projects and deliverables; Applicable communications skills-experience with direct mail campaigns, database management, customer relations, and strong writing and verbal skills; Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced environment, often with stringent and overlapping deadlines; Worked collaboratively with both small and large teams/departments to ensure high customer service quality.
Developed knowledge of Portland's philanthropic landscape to engage in donor stewardship. Alternatively, possesses transferable knowledge from another industry or landscape to engage in effective donor stewardship Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to persuade and positively move people to action Comfort and ease presenting to large groups
The Director of Engagement and Annual Giving has an annual pay of $90,314.96, and is eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: 2 weeks of vacation per year with no waiting period. Hours carry over year to year up to 200 hours; 2 weeks of sick time per year with no waiting period.
