Position Summary
Kelso Industries is looking for a hands-on, strategic-minded Head of EHS to build a world-class safety program from the ground up. This is not a plug-and-play safety role, we need someone passionate about creating structure, setting standards, and driving cultural change. You'll work closely with operating company (OpCo) leaders across our portfolio to implement a scalable, effective, and field-driven safety approach that protects our people and reflects our commitment to operational excellence.
What You'll Do Design and implement a comprehensive safety program built upon the existing 30+ MEP+ focused operating companies across the United States. Build/Improve on safety policies, procedures, reporting structures, and training programs. Develop deep, trusted partnerships with OpCo leadership to tailor and implement safety strategies across diverse environments and geographies. Drive safety ownership at all levels, from C-suite to field crews, through coaching, influence, and accountability. Conduct risk assessments, jobsite audits, and safety reviews to identify and mitigate hazards. Investigate incidents, lead root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. Deliver safety training that engages and empowers field personnel. Monitor leading and lagging indicators and report on safety performance to senior leadership. Stay current on OSHA and state regulations; ensure full compliance. Travel to operating companies and job sites as needed (30-50%). Manage a team of Safety Professionals across Kelso Industries. Required Qualifications 10+ years of progressive safety experience, with at least 5 years in a construction specific environment (manufacturing or warehouse experience does not qualify). Demonstrated success building safety programs from the ground up, not just maintaining existing programs. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with field leaders, project managers, and executives. OSHA 30 required; CHST, CSP, or equivalent preferred. Experience with MEP+ trades, general contracting, or heavy industrial projects strongly preferred. Willingness and ability to work from the Salt Lake City corporate office. Highly prefer local candidates or those open to relocation. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
