Salary: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00

Position Summary

The Director of Educational Programs is a seasoned academic leader responsible for the design, oversight, and continuous improvement of EPICs instructional and curricular systems. This individual will serve as a key architect of the academic vision, leading all aspects of instructional leadership, curriculum development, professional development, academic compliance, and educational innovation. In addition, this person is responsible for accountability and compliance to the California Department of Education, and to the authorizing County Office of Education. This includes the K-12 education code, and federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act requirements, and other applicable educational programs.


Key Responsibilities

Academic Leadership & Program Oversight

  • Ensure educational programs meet California State Standards, WASC accreditation requirements, and state and federal compliance guidelines.
    Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a standards-aligned curriculum, including ESL, CTE, basic skills, ABE, ASE, and high school diploma programs.
  • Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of all educational programs.
  • Ensure compliance with California State Education Code, WASC Accreditation, Nevada County Office of the Superintendent, and EPIC's Charter.
  • Lead curriculum development and instructional improvements aligned with California State Standards.
  • Support faculty professional development and instructional excellence to serve diverse student populations.
  • Monitor student enrollment, retention, and performance.


Instructional Strategy & Curriculum Academic Design

  • Drive instructional excellence by implementing research-based teaching and learning strategies at all school sites.
  • Develop and maintain systems for curriculum development, mapping, scope and sequence, and instructional pacing.
  • Lead school-wide initiatives to improve instructional outcomes, including credit recovery, distance learning, and blended learning models.
  • Guide the integration of technology and digital tools into teaching practices.
  • The guide integration of all educational programs to include Career Technical Education, English as a Second Language, and Adult Basic and Secondary Education.


Educator Development & Supervision

  • Direct the supervision, evaluation, and coaching of certificated instructional staff, ensuring continuous growth and accountability.
  • Design and deliver comprehensive professional development programs aligned to instructional goals and staff needs.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, feedback, and reflective practice among educators.


Data, Assessment & Continuous Improvement

  • Oversee the implementation of student outcome assessments and academic progress monitoring systems.
  • Use data to drive instructional decisions, identify areas for improvement, and inform strategic planning.
  • Monitor student achievement trends and develop intervention strategies to close achievement gaps.


School Operations & Administrative Support

  • Serve as the academic lead.
  • Collaborate with site leadership and instructional teams to ensure program alignment and school site readiness.
  • Prepare and ensure maintenance of accurate academic records, reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Manage budgets, grants, and financial resources to ensure efficient use of funding.


Community & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the academic representative in community forums, agency partnerships, and stakeholder events.
  • Establish relationships with workforce development partners, colleges, and community-based organizations to expand learning pathways.
  • Advocate for EPICs educational mission and model at the local, regional, and state levels.


Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • Deep expertise in curriculum development, instructional frameworks, and educational andragogy for students over the age of 18.
  • Advanced knowledge of California Education Code, WASC standards, and charter school compliance.
  • Exceptional leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.
  • Strategic thinking with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Clear, professional communication both oral and written.
  • High emotional intelligence, cultural competency, and an unwavering commitment to equity in education.
  • Knowledge of cultural, socioeconomic and language differences that affect educational outcomes


Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Education, Educational Leadership or Curriculum & Instruction required
  • Valid California Administrative Services Credential and/or instructional leadership experience as a lead teacher or TOSA, preferably in adult education, charter, or alternative education settings.
  • Teaching and Instructional Leadership:At least 5+ years of teaching and instructional leadership experience. This includes experience as a lead teacher or Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA)
  • Proven experiencein academic program management, teacher support, and oversight of curriculum design at a systems level.


Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid California Drivers License.


Travel Requirements

  • Up to 50% travel between regional sites and community events as needed.

Language Skills

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desired.


Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Environment: School site and office setting; frequent interaction with staff, students, and community members.
  • Mobility: Must be able to walk throughout campus frequently.
  • Physical Requirements: Occasionally lift materials up to 25 lbs., bend, stoop, or kneel as needed.
  • Vision & Dexterity: Requires frequent use of computer, visual acuity, and manual dexterity for documentation.
  • Communication & Stress Tolerance: Must manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and maintain professionalism in high-stress environments.
